Hello again,
We are wrapping up our time in India with the capital city New Delhi. In comparison to the rest of India we have seen Delhi is a bustling, modern metropolis complete with a brand new metro system (we could finally avoid the dreaded rickshaw touts).
The main historical site is the Red Fort, once the palace of the emperor responsible for the construction of the Taj Mahal. Around the fort we wondered through the surrounding bazaars, we bought what we thought was a bargain memory stick only to later discover there was no memory inside, oops!!
We also visited the largest mosque in India and enjoyed impressive views of the city from one of the towers. On our last day we went to Humayun's Tomb, which looks like a miniature red sandstone version of the Taj Mahal. We also saw part of modern Delhi and went to an area called Connaught Place, with a radial street layout, which was disorientating to walk around. Added to this were the numerous shady characters hanging round at every street corner, which left us underwhelmed.
We have had a great time in India, it is a country like no other, which can be exciting and frustrating at the same time!
Flying to Thailand tomorrow, catch up with you then.
Dale and Liz xx
