Hello again,
We have just been to India's most famous landmark, and another of the seven wonders of the world! We were expecting a well organised, smart entrance way into the Taj Mahal, the reality when we reached the south gate was a cramped little market street with one line for ladies and the other for men. Once into the main courtyard and gardens we stopped in our tracks and stood in amazement at the beauty of the mausoleum and surrounding landscape.
The Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shan Jahan as a memorial to his second wife, who died giving birth to their 14th child. He was said to be heartbroken. It took 20,000 people from around the world 20 years to complete.
Near our hotel was the Taj nature walk where we walked along stone pathways through trees and birds. We were lucky enough to spot naive peacocks and also some brown buck deer.
See you in Allahabad! xxxx
