So last night we stayed in the Peel Forest in Rangitata near the river. It rained all night pretty much.
We hung out in our dorm and chatted before bed-Cecelia, Jemma and I. Talked about work, travelling. Great conversation. Fell asleep around 1030pm or so.
Left Rangitata at 730am-awoke to clear blue skies and mountain view which we couldn't appreciate when we checked in because of the rain. Drove through the Canterbury plains-cultivated farmland, so tons of sheep, deer and cows along the way!
What I loved about staying in Rangitata is it is yet another place where you can actually hear the silence at night and the birds chirping in the morning-I have come to appreciate that!
In general, I also realize how distracted we are in our daily lives-we are paying attention to the wrong things in society; we really need to focus on one another, not tv/celebrities and such or who has the highest number of views on YouTube or who is trending on Twitter.
Siccadas (sp) (I think they're like crickets)-I love that sound after not hearing it for a while.
Stopped in Geraldine for lunch for an hour yesterday. Quaint little town-went to an outdoor garden cafe with Cecelia and Jemma, got groceries before staying in Rangitata.
Dropped off and picked up an equal amount of people from the airport in Christchurch-Daisy's back on the bus today-yeah! Then, continued on to Kaikoura:) We drove around the bend and the crystal clear green water of Kaikoura appeared, with mountains in the background-best of beach, ocean, mountain, sky, trees! Very happy with my decision to stay here for the next 4 nights....
Checked into our hostel, went out for a walk on the main street (takes all of say 10 minutes), and then went for a 45 min. walk along the waterfront to a seafood BBQ. It is recommended in Lonely planet-cooked fresh from the sea! I had seafood chowder and garlic
scallops on a bed of rice-amazingly good. The way it should be really! Only $13 for both....ate at a picnic table right by the water.
Walked back, stayed up talking and giggling and now bedtime early since Jemma, Rosie and Daisy are getting up early to swim with dolphins while they feed! Happy for them. I will see them off tomorrow morning:( Toodaloo....
