Wanaka-I love it here! Left Franz Josef this morning in a downpour and as the day has progressed, the sun has once again returned:) Happy girl!
Glacier fed lake in the centre of town and surrounded by mountains! Reminds me somewhat of Kelowna in the Okanagan-only better!
Only have tonight here, but again, gratitude for seeing this place no matter what:)
Stopped at another waterfall today along the way. Forget the name of it-whoops!
My blessing today was sitting beside a German fellow on the bus-tall, friendly, polite, intelligent, and kind. He is an elementary school teacher who took 2/3 of his salary-worked 2 years full-time, then takes his 3rd year off at the same salary. It's a contract with specific clauses, but I like the idea!!
We talked pretty much the whole way about life, travelling, what our favourite places/experiences have been. So refreshing to have interesting conversation-I have a thirst for it! He recently hiked in Nepal and stayed in Fiji. He is well travelled, well versed and plans to be in Wanaka this week to do the triathlon next weekend. Happy to have crossed paths with him:)
Checked into our hostel and sat down outside on the deck and had yet another fantastic conversation with a fellow from Israel. He is 29 and recently finished his degree in animation at a university in Melbourne. Such an interesting person....he has been trying to figure out/decide what his next step will be-stay in Australia or return to Israel again. At this moment, he is leaning towards his roots in Israel.
Love sharing perspectives-what I realize is that no matter what, the human condition is the same-importance of home, appreciation of family & country, kindness, connectedness, finding purpose and peace in life. Trying to figure it all out. I am smiling big right now. Loving all of it:)
