Day 1 on the canal boat
Today we caught the train called the TGV to Agde. It took about 3 and a half hours to get to the next station where we had to change train. We caught the train with minutes to spare.
It wasn't the best train ride for me because afterwards I got sick again just outside the train station!
Our boat wasn't ready till 2:00 so we had a walk around Agde. At last the time came when we could get on board and take a look at the boat. The boat was called JAVA. Compared to many other boats it wasn't that special I have to say but it was still an amazing experience.
We did our very first lock that day. It didn't go the best but at least we made it. I thought it was quite fun and also because lots of people were watching :)! A lock is made so that the canal doesn't run out of water. It is man-made so that's why the water can easily run out if we don't keep it under control. When you go into the loch the gates will close and the water will either fill up or it will go down depending on what place you want to go.
We did need a bit of guidance because we kept banging against the walls :) (Luckily there are fenders to keep the boat from scratching when you bang against things).
We went up the canal a little bit but it was getting quite late so we moored next to a caravan park and another lock, just a little way up the Canal du
Midi. There were also some other boats that were moored there and I have to say that they were very nice boats!
It was a wonderful night!
