Hi from Ann & Stephen
We are now into Day 14 out of 35 of our trip and time has really flown by. Although when we planned this trip many months ago we intended for it to be reasonably relaxing as we thought we would try and not fall into the trap of doing too many sights and activities. However, as with most sight-seeing holidays the days are always really hectic with only limited time to chill out and put the feet up.
The south of England was interesting but much, much busier than we were expecting and accommodation was hard to find, especially for 5. The weather started off quite cool but as we were leaving a heat wave hit and it was about 30degrees in London.
The journey to Paris did not go well. On the way to the train station in London we got caught in an immense traffic jam and were 3 hours late missing our train. As they were prepaid we had to buy new ones at a huge cost penalty. Hopefully our insurance will cover this. The train journey was also longer by about an hour so it was a very long day.
Paris was interesting for the girls as we visited the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Versailles Palace and gardens. Thomas said everything was boring. The apartment gave us plenty of space for a few days and a chance to save a bit of money by eating in. Much of the food so far, especially in the English pubs, was pretty ordinary and pricey.
We are on our way to Agde on the TGV where we will be on a canal boat for 4 days. Thomas might even find this a bit less boring. Hopefully, this will be a much slower pace than so far and a chance to relax before picking up our rental car and heading to the French Provence and Riviera.
