David says:
Apparently Gill has told Drew that this blog isn't anal enough so here is the detail that Drew missed off from yesterday: distance 44.7km, max speed 41.1km/h, moving avg 13.5km/h, ascent 709m.
Today, Friday, there was a faint, persistent Haar. Thankfully the wind from yesterday had faded away.
Mostly cycling along country lanes - smell of wood smoke, cockerels crowing, country folk leaning on fences mobile phones in hand texting and mini traffic jams as sheep are herded along the lanes.
I like the field boundaries - pile up some earth, throw on boulders and then wait a few hundred years for nature to take over. The wild flowers are wonderful.
I pinched our route from the website of two guys that cycle camped in 2009. The route files are on my Garmin GPS and all we have to do is follow a thin red line on the display.
At one point we found ourselves in amongst other cyclist - this part, at least, it turns out is the CTC B&B route (as opposed to the CTC camping route). I thought we had found a little used LEJOG route all to ourselves.
Here is the anal bit. Drew's saddle was loose this morning but he noticed and now assures me that he has now tightened it to the recommended 5Nm torque.
We are staying in a B&B in Padstow. We had fish and chips (sea bream) at one of the hundred odd Rick Stein establishments. It appears that Drew has already eaten or stayed in all of them while doing the Coastal walk.
The crac is that Nick Clegg is in Padstow. He doesn't seem to be staying in our B&B.
Drew said it was amazing how much ground you can cover on a bike just after we had travelled 8 miles in 1hr 20m. Admittedly a lot of that was waiting for sheep to clear the road.
More anal stuff for Gill:
Distance 79km, max speed 49.6km/h moving 5hrs 16m, ascent 504m.
