Drew says:
Very pleasant stay in Okehampton last night (Saturday) despite the late night revellers. Started as we intended to go on (no choice really) with an uphill drag into a very cold breeze.
The GPS route which we are using continues to take us along narrow, quiet, picturesque, and very hilly lanes. The sections on wider/busier roads are easier but it is a relief to get back on to the lanes even though progress is slower.
We skirted the Northern fringe of Dartmoor and crossed the A30 at Whiddon Down to commence a series of long, fast descents towards Crediton. Had lunch in The Thorverton Arms in er.. Thorverton.
The section from where we crossed the A30 at Hele up through Cullumpton was very uninspiring but things improved when we got back to the lanes North of Appledore.
Taunton was almost deserted - a very quiet Sunday evening around 6pm. We decided to carry on to the Premier Inn in Bridgewater which still had rooms available. The route avoiding main roads after Taunton was more demanding than I felt I could cope with after 9 hours on the road so we reverted to the A38 and had a very fast run into Bridgewater and out the North end to our hotel. We arrived a 7:30pm having started at 9:30am this morning.
I shall let David fill in the statistics as he is the one with the GPS.
120.84km, max speed 45.4km/h, moving time 7 hrs 4m, moving avg speed 17.1km/h, ascent 654m
