We arrived in John o' Groats about an hour ago. We came direct from Thurso as early as possible before the wind got its strength up. It is a beautiful sunny day here with fluffy clouds in a blue sky. It is pretty chilly out of the sun. We are off to Wick when we have had a coffee.
Drew says:
The above was written at about 12:15 - so we arrived at 11:15. The total mileage from Land's End was 1101 miles.
We were feeling very much fitter today after a good night's sleep. Since our goal was so close we decided not to take a detour to Dunnet Head - an extra 5 miles out and 5 miles back.
At John o' Groats a couple, Tony and Deborah, arrived minutes after us. We had spoken to them as we were both leaving Lands End. At JoG they took our photographs and we took theirs.
This was the second time we had met them since leaving Land's End. Although we had taken different routes we had met them again briefly where our routes crossed somewhere near Camelford.
Our 16 mile run from John o' Groats to Wick was very quick as the wind was now directly behind us.
We are now planning what to do with our spare contingency day tomorrow before our train to Edinburgh on Tuesday.
Stats:
Distance 32.7km, moving time 1hr 51m, moving avg 17.6km/h, ascent 150m, max speed 35.4km.
