It´s 1.30 in the afternoon on day 10 in Costa Rica! We have just finished a morning shift at the Orphanage ´Hogaricto´ The last couple of days we have taken some toys and crafts to the children and it has made managing them all at lot easier. Yesturday we even managed to get all fifteen children sitting at the table learning the alphabet in English and drawing pictures of Superman! The kids here love Superman. This morning was spent teaching the kids and playing with them in the garden. I was pampered today by one of the Tias...the mothers at the orphanage and she took pitty on my grubby feet and gave me a pedicure! We also saw a Tortuga...a tortoise! Which kept the kids amused for a while as they followed it around the garden and tried to bash it with their toys! Josh and I also spent an hour with the tiny babies, which was awesome! Josh even thought he had managed to get one of the babies to take his first steps, until the Tias came in laughing their heads off and told us that he has been walking for a few days! When we arrived at the Orphanage the Tias were quite difficult and it took a while for us to break the ice with them, but now with my dodgy spanish and Josh´s eagerness to do DIY for them we are all getting on well! The Tias don´t often get males coming in to teach the kids so it is good and I think they find us quite amusing...in a ´laughing at us not with us´ kind of way!
It is friday today so we are going to San Roman tonight...the next town to ours to have a few drinks and meet up with some of the group that have been doing the building project and as it is the weekend we are going to plan our group trip to Monteverde...the Cloud Forest and Rainforests to hopefully do some canopy tours and zip lines! We are all meeting to get the bus at 7am tomorrow, as Monteverde is roughly three hours away and as it is a bank holiday weekend here in Costa Rica we can spend three days there and return on Monday evening rather than Sunday! Hooray! I´m really looking forward to letting off some steam and spending some time with the other volunteers as this week has been work, work work! and has been very tiring!
