Just a quick hello from high in the Monterverde Mountains!
This weekend has been our first weekend off and Josh and I (along with seven of our friends on the building project) decided to take the 3 hour bus journey up to the Monteverde Mountains, home to Rain Forest, Cloud Forests, Waterfalls, Canopy Tours and lot´s of restaurants selling non Costa Rica food! (Yippeeee!)
On friday night we went to the neighbouring town of San Roman to meet our friends for a quick planning session in a local bar, the plan was set within 5 minutes...get the 7am bus to the Monteverde Mountains and go from there! The rest of the night...we drank...and drank! (And I discovered Rum and Coke in a can! Scoreeeeeee! Hooray for the Cubre Libres!)
The bus ride up the Mountains was possibly the worst bus jounrey I have ever been on! The bus was full as soon as it pulled up and so we stood in the aisle of the coach for three hours...three horrible long hours watching people with pillows sleeping in the comfort of a seat and not having to crouch over their backpacks! Luckily for me I made friends with a slightly annoying groups of American backpackers who sympathised with us after previously spending 7 hours stood up in the aisle during their last bus trip! They were very nice and decided to give me a pillow and also spared their arm rests for me! ...the price however... having to sit and listen to three highly pitched american girls debate over who is cooler, Oprah Winfrey or Ellen! As much as I wanted to strangle all three I powered through and decided against it!
Since we have been here in Monteverde we have been to a Frog Sanctury, a Cheese Factory, we all went on a night walk through the rain forest (which was fun!) We have been on a Canopy tour and acorss bridges above the Cloud Forest and when the other guys left yesterday Josh took me on a walk through the Rain Forest where we found some very beautiful spots looking out over the forest and mountains and from the top you could see the Pacific Ocean... Absolutely stunning!
It´s our last night in Monteverde and Josh is currently cooking me noodles in the hostel kitchen whilst drinking beer with a very freindly Dutch guy! We were meant to be on the bus back to Palmares today as we have work first thing tomorrow, but we didn´t book ourselves a ticket and as there is only one bus a day it was full, there weren´t even any "standing" tickets left! (few!) So, we are a little stranded but thankfully managed to get ourselves a bed in a hostel and are sharing a room with two (non annoying) Americans and have a ticket for the bus back at 6am tomorrow.
