I am now in Jhalarapatan! The town closest to where I'll be volunteering!!
From Delhi we stopped on the way at Jaipur for a day of orientation which was really interesting - we had presentations on the Kanjars (the caste we will be working with), Women in India (also very sad situation) and on learning Hindi (I'm trying!).
Then it was quite a journey to where I am now! Everything that could be, was delayed - welcome to India! So instead of taking ~7hrs it ended up being more than 18hrs. And the girl I was with from UK was very sick the whole way - poor thing.
We finally made it and I am so happy to be here!!
There is one other girl from Denmark and 4 Indian workers who are all very nice.
Today I went out to the 3 projects in the Kanjar villages which was great! They are a bus ride & walk away. They all have schools that have been set up which we can teach at. We can also set up any other initiatives we are led to - plenty of opportunity for. The kids are so beautiful & cheeky! All are covered in dirt and have snotty noses, some dont wear much clothes - but I love them! Now we have to choose which project we want to work with which is quite a hard decision which I have the weekend to decide. Really excited about whats ahead!
I've been getting into the cricket since being here in India - not normally that interested -but because Aust is playing in a series against India its pretty cool & alot of the people like to talk to me about it! Saw a Bollywood movie yesterday with the king of Bollywood in it - Shah Rukh Khan - he is just like a god here! We also went shopping for some Indian clothes - I am very well covered :)
Its wonderful to be in India!
Nameste :)
