Hellooo from Bangkok!!
Arrived here safe and sound on thursday, got to my hotel at about 5pm and very nice it was too! Simple but clean, comfy and air-conditioned!! Whoever invented that is a genius!! Very hot and humid but just starting to get used to it now...was starving at this point so grabbed some stir-fried veg n rice from the hotel restaurant/bar...mmm tasty, best ive ever had!
First night, I found fred wandering the corridors of the hotel so we went out for a drink to a bar called Sabai Sabai on KhaoSan Road, which had a Thai rock band on singing all sorts of classic covers like Iron Maiden and Deep Purple! Was really good fun! We met some Finnish people, includin a girl who had exactly the same colour hair as me and the same star tattoos!! How odd!! Absolutely knackered by this point so headed straight to bed......woke up to find that i had slept thru breakfast! Darn it!
So now were on to friday (17th) ...decided at this point that i wanted to head for somewhere with beaches, i need the sea!!! so booked a bus n boat down to Koh Tao that leaves on Sunday....dont worry tasch i will be heading back down there when u come too :) Went to visit a temple that was being refurbished so was free to get in woohoo! Altho it was under construction was still very beautiful, went in and had a moment with lots of other thais ppl! Very spiritual! Then i got talking to a man call WiChai, a volunteer at the temple who talked me thru my little map of bangkok i had...where to go, where not to go....restores your faith in human kind when ppl genuinely want to help u :) so he got his friend to take me in a tuktuk to see the 45ft Buddha statue! Crazyness ensued but was so much fun in the back of a tuk tuk, and so cheap if u haggle and/or get the nice guys! Buddha and surrounding area was Really serene...WiChai explained that if i touch the Buddhas foot with my right hand i would be blessed with good luck...so i did that! Got some photos but havent really got enough to upload yet so will do when got more to show! After wandering around the massive Buddha and temple area, tuk tuk man took me to the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) to find out prices for the bus i mentioned earlier....after that i went back to KhaoSan Road and had some food and watched the world go by....so interesting just to watch ther Thai people go about their daily business! Early evening i headed back for an hour power nap (the heat really takes it out of u!) Later on i went to the night market in Patpong which was really interesting, bit stressful as they actually try to drag you to their stalls!! This is also where half naked girls parade around in the bars and streets...bit of an eye-opener to say the least! Met two Czech people, Mikita and Robert who had been travellin for 18 months, had just arrived after 9mnths bein in NZ so had lots to talk about with them! They both had really nice dreads! I was jealous, and am already serioudly considering gettin mine back!
Okay onto Saturday (18th) Today! Had to check out of hotel today, but have now checked into the Lampu Guest House, pretty much over the road from where i was....Much cheaper tho 3.50quid! Went on the Chao Praya River Boat today, was excellent to see the city from another viewpoint, and nice to have a breeze! Took me a while to find my sea legs, kept fallin over but thats normal chamberlain behaviour! Dad, youd be horrified by the health n safety(or lack of!) its funny to watch in disbelief at some of the things people do! Got off the boat and got onto the skytrain which is really cheap and easy to use....and air conditioned!! Got off at MBK a big shopping mall, nice and cool....didnt buy anythin...restrained myself!! There was a live concert outside of a Korean (Ithink) girl band, everyone was screaming and going mental for em! NOt my cup of tea but i got an ice cream and sat n watched anyway! Good Fun! Headed back....showered and changed and thats where im upto now :) Lots of other things have happened inbetween but internet connection is slow and keys harsd to type on!!
But im safe and happy and having a wicked time!! Bangkok as a city is....noisy, busy, polluted, humid, sweaty.....i could go on but i still like it....a few days at a time i think!! Thats why the decision was easy to make bout goin down to Koh Tao tomorrow!!
Next time i write i shall be there, and hopefully have more photos to do one upload all at once!
Love you all xxxx Miss you all too xxx
