Christina´s Extraordinary Adventures Abroad!
Hey everyone! Ok well this will be a long post but those that love me will read it anyways LOL!! Let me update you from the week....
Monday July 3:
I was pretty sick today...I absolutly HATE the weather here. It is there winter time but over all its not that cold...even though people are dressed like it is a blizzard outside. Ive been here for 2 weeks and there have only been like 3 or 4 pretty days out of them all. Most of the time it is around 60 degrees so kindof chilly, damp and 98 % humidity...in the cold?!?! Its the weirdest weather ever! So my hair is always wet and its always sticky out. So the crappy weather on top of the fact that the city is FULL of pollution and smog just made my allergies go crazy! You literally can take a shower and be all nice and clean and feeling great and walk outside to smell all the dog crap on the sidewalks and pollution from the cars and really feel like you are breathing the dirtiest air around. This is really the only bad part about this trip. So Today I was pretty down and out...and my host mom blamed it on me sleeping with the fan on...so I stopped doing that and I must say I did feel much better Tuesday morning.
Tuesday July 4:
YAY 4th of July and yet another year when I am celebrating it OUT of the good ole USA. But needless to say we made do. Practically all of the AMerican students at my school ended up at the Hard Rock Cafe to celebrate. We figured it was the most American place around...we had alot of fun...and thank goodness the workers there put up with all of us and were really nice too. Oh and thats another thing. Over all people in general are very nice here. I wouldn't say they are as nice as the people in Ecuador and Peru but this is also a huge city and they are a heck of alot nicer than people you would find in New York. It also never seems to fail that when we are lost or about to become lost there is always a really nice person who will help us even without us asking...I can't even imagine that happening in The States. But don't get me wrong they have their really rude people too...just not as many as you would imagine in a big city.
Wednesday July 5:
Today was a yuck day again outside so everyone just kindof went home after school. As most of you know I absolutly HATE the winter time back home especially because it gets dark so freaking early...and it does here too...so I just about can't stand going home to rest or take a nap in the afternoons because by the time I get back out of the house its dark out and I hate that! But today I did take a nap...and went and got my laundry...which I have to do every 5 days...this kindof sucks...I don't know what I was thinking when I was packing. Jessie and I (she is the girl who used to live with me) went to see Cars tonight in Spanish. They had them playing in english too but she really wanted to see it in spanish and thought it would be good for me too. It was soooo cute! I understood so much more than i thought I would. When I first got here I thought I had forgotten most of my spanish from the end of last summer because I was struggling again to communicate but I have improved so much. After the movie Jessie came back to my house and we watched Floricienta! OMG!! Let me just tell you guys about this show. This is a show on the Disney Channel that is filmed in Argentina and is in Spanish not dubbed...well I started watching it last summer in Ecuador and the girls at the house would explain it to me and everything and it was absolutly amazing! Its like a Lizzie McGuire but more dramatic and runs like a soap opera. Well anyways last week I discovered that for the 5 months that Jessie has been here she has gotten addicted to it too..so now we watch it every night! Its awesome!
Thursday July:
Today right after class we went down to the Plaza de Mayo. I put up pictures of this last night. Every Thursday at 3:30 the mothers of the disappeared march in front of the presidential palace in the square. It was soo powerful and sad at the same time. Click on my pictures to see the full description. But basically back in the 70s tons of young people were taken from their families by the military and never heard from again during the ¨Dirty War¨in Argentina. Now 30 years later there are still no answers and mothers and sisters still march in protest and demanding answers from the government about their family members. We tried to take a tour of the Presidentia Palace (Casa Rosada) but it was all full for the day...so we are going back next week. We walked around the city and to Avenue Nuevo de Julio...this is the largest Avenue in the world...and is where the obelisk is located. This is also in my pictures. It was really crazy....we thought there would be a ton of tourists around there too like in Plaza de Mayo but there definitley were not...it was really sketch. And as you can read from my pics...we almost got robbed....by an 8 yr old boy!!!....it was interesting! We walked around for about 6 hours and it was amazing...we walk everywhere here...I really love it...but it would definitley be better if we weren't breathing in the worst air ever! But oh well.
Friday July 7:
Well that brings us to today....I skipped class today...we were just gonna watch a movie...and I knew I would just fall asleep anyways. So I just chilled at home and spent most of the day on the phone with Orbitz and Kennesaw State...it never fails that when you are calling internationally and need to speak to someone quickly they will put you on hold for an eternity. But Oh well...
This weekend:
tonight we are going back to take some more Tango lessons...and scope out some new restaurants to eat at. Tomorrow we are going to tour Teatro Colon and then off to La Boca...its a cool area that is only safe to travel to during the day so we have to go on a saturday. On Sunday we are going to a ferria...which is like a huge craft fair where people come out and bring tons of hand made things like a huge market! It is supposed to be really awesome.
Well I will try to keep this thing updated more often...that way I don't forget to tell the funny stories that I feel like I have forgotten this week. Hope everyone enjoyed the pictures!!
I Love you all and miss yall!!
