Christina´s Extraordinary Adventures Abroad!
Alright well since I just got this thing and have been here 6 days already Im gonna combine the past 6 days in one random entry...please Enjoy!!
Friday 6-23
My host home is great. It is a small apartment but I have my own room with a closet and a tv!! Which I was really excited considering last year I never got to watch tv much less have one in my room. My host home mom's name is Tatiana and her daughter JEsica doesn't live there anymore but for the past 5 months she has had a girl from KEntucky names Jesica staying with her as well. JEsica will be here until July 1st. She has really helped me out alot with just random information. I am about 20 minutes from Drew's house and about another 5 or 10 from school. So I am definitley getting my exercise daily!
Sat 6-24
We just finished up our orientation for the school. It looks like we are not going to have as much time on the weekends to travel as we thought we would. We can still travel to a few places but not many since we are only here for a month. I have a feeling that we are going to want to stay way longer!! We met the other students today too. They are from all over but mainly from the North Ex. Washington, MOntana, New York...etc...so they think we talk funny! Everyone seems really kewl! And it so good to have people to do stuff with...not quite as lonely as last summer !! LOL I got about 11 hours of sleep last night so today is much better! It was pouring this morning and I had to walk 30 minutes to school so Im soo glad I packed my umbrella.
Sun 6-25
Well its raining again today which makes it even colder! This morning I got up and went to church with Jessica the girl who is also staying in my house. Last summer her church came down here and for a mission trip type thing and worked with this church and so this year since she has been back she goes there on the weekends. It was an hour and half away but it was kewl because we got our first rides on the subway and buses. The people there were really nice and we sang alot of the songs we sing in church here just in spanish....plus I knew alot of them from last summer...so I really enjoyed it! We just got back from there and went and grabbed a bite to eat. We didnt end up going out with everyone last night which was probably good so we could get up this morning. Im probably just gonna chill the rest of the day. Nothing too exciting...especially since its really nasty outside! We have our placement test tomorrow at the school so hopefully that wont be too bad!
Mon 6-26
There are about 13 people in our particular program CCIS out of Central Washington University, but there are other programs going to this same school with people from the states so there were about 100+ students taking the test. It was pretty hard...and well basically there are 4 levels you could be in: beginning, intermediate 1 and intermediate 2 and advanced. Well I kindof figured that I needed to be in intermediate 2 or maybe even advanced but based on the test which was ridiculous I got put into intermediate 1. So tomorrow I have to talk to the professor to get moved out cause I really dont want to be in a really easy class. Alot of people from our program were really mad because they needed to be in different ones too and I was kindof ticked cause I speak more spanish than Drew and he got put higher than me LOL. But oh well. After lunch we went to a travel agency. Bascially we want to take 2 trips while we are here and we have to take them this weekend and next in order to have time. So we found a trip to the Iguazu Falls this saturday and sunday with me and drew and 2 other girls for about $200US. Which really isnt bad at all which includes us flying there on saturday morning and having transportation from and to the airport and a provate excursion with a guide and a bus ride back that night. So we are really excited about that! Tomorrow we are going to pick up our tickets for that and try and plan a trip to Tierra Del Fuego...which is the southern most part of the earth closest to Antarctica...I really hope I can afford this one...cause I wanna see it soo bad!! After lunch 5 of us went downtown...we have a list of all the places we want to see before we leave. So we are going to more than likely be doing things everyday! We went to the Cemetery Recoleta. This is the place were Eva Perron ¨Evita¨ was burried...the place was BEAUTIFUL!!! I was freaking out! I have amazing pictures and it was the most amazing cemetery I had ever seen! With huge above ground alters and measoleums!! It was amazing! Then we went to the nearby old historical church ¨Claustros del Pilar¨ and got to go inside and go upstairs to the only part of the church that has never been renevated! And It over 300 years old!!!! It was AMAZING!!! Then we had a really great experience of taking the bus during rush hour...that was fun and interesting! But downtown is beautiful and alot like New York or Chicago just alot ****** and more historical!! We will be going back there to see a ton more things too.
Tues 6-27
Well nohing really exciting today. It was the first day of real class and well like I said before I think they put me in a really easy one...and well I was right! I was sooo ahead of those kids! It was really weird. I don't know that this was necessarily the best language program to go through but it was the cheapest and its fun and since I learned sooo much last summer Im not gonna have any problems its just repeating alot of stuff. But oh well...I could use the practice. So basically tomorrow I am moving up to the next class to see if it is better...if it is too hard (which I doubt it will be since Drew is in that one and I speak more than him and he is doing fine) but if it is I can move back down on thursday. So who knows. After class we went back to the travel agency to buy our tickets for this weekend to Igauzu Falls! Im so excited about that and we book a trip to Uruguay for the last weekend we are here ( July 15) its also a day trip and alot cheaper. We tried to book a trip to Tierra Del Fuego for next weekend but the flights were full (this is the southernmost part of South America) and because its winter time it is very hard to travel there. So then we tried going a little farther north to see the Glaciers and the flight were booked for that as well. So needless to say Im definitley bummed out about that cause I really wanted to see Antarctica!! But oh well we are now trying to find somewhere else interesting to go next weekend! And if thee isnt anything amazing that we want to see we will just do some more exploring around here! Because we got done with that so late we didnt have time to do anything else...
Wed 6-28
Well today again nothing too exciting. I moved up to the other class...yea not too sure if that was the best decision or not. Basically the class I was in yesterday was soooo easy!! But the class today I was definitley confused alot...I mean once someone explained it to me it wasnt too bad but I dunno. I spent the whole 5 hours today confused on whether or not i should change and go back down to the easier one but then I jsut decided that I dont know that I want to spend an entire month bored to tears. Even though there I was the smartest one in the class...its stuff that I learned a LONG time ago. So know Im defnitley NOT the smartest one in the class but I do know most of it just need to be reminded and a refresher! Oh well...we will see how that goes! We only really walked around today nothing to exciting...at some point I have to find a place to wash my clothes....not looking forward to that either! BUt it has GOT to be done soon or Im gonna be smelling and wearing dirty clothes!!
