We arrived in Delhi yesterday and stayed at the Ivory Palace Hotel, a very average, but clean establishment which in the end made for a terribly romantic first night due to its rooftop 'restaurant' where we sat at the lone table surrounded by water tanks and pipes, but lit up with fairy-lights and lanterns and talked of the huge adventures that lay before us. Later, a stroll around Channa Market, with its overcrowded streets, blowing horns and pickpocket persistent beggars, gave the exact rude awaking we needed (and expected from India) after we'd slept the day away.
The next morning with our tours and trips for the next month planned and cards quickly swiped, we were whisked off to see some of New Delhi's sights, included in the price, of course. Which was not a bargain I can assure you, but reasonable enough and a good way, we thought, to ease us into hectic India before we had to become proper travellers and actually carry our backpacks!
