We left Delhi in a haze after yet another party with our new BFFs and headed for Rajasthan, the Land of Kings. India's must-see state filled with majestic forts and lavish palaces, deserts, camel trains, glittering jewels and vibrant culture. A land I'd seen in many documentaries and one which had been on my bucket list for ages. So I really wish I had used some of that relaxation time in Kashmir to research our next trip and not just trust that our BFF's in Delhi would magically know exactly where I wanted to go and plan the right tour.
After a quick stop in Haryana state to stock up on booze as it's loads cheaper than Rajasthan, according to Rhotash, our driver for the next few weeks, we were headed for Bikaner, our first stop in Rajasthan and already I was annoyed. I had started reading the Lonely Planet you see and realised that I really wanted to stop in the Shekhawati area to 'explore the forgotten towns and discover the crumbling frescoed Havelis sprinkled throughout the region' and to break up what was becoming a very long drive. But too late Captain Hindsight!
I was annoyed with Yasir for rushing me back in Delhi when I was querying the trip and asking about the distances between towns, the sights to see and the best route and I was annoyed with Dan for not backing me up whilst making these queries. Most of all I was annoyed with myself for not doing the research and leaving everything to the last minute as always. Dan and I had reversed roles and while I was stuck in a negative web, sulking and pouting over the whole trip being in ruins and unfairly placing all the blame on Yasir. Dan however was unusually optimistic and constantly assuring me that it was still going to be a great trip, despite my grievances. 'Yeah right' was all I could think and continued to dig myself deeper into an irritable sulk that lasted most of the day.
