Australia Bank Holiday Weekend Continued...
After a lazy Saturday morning, I met the two English Girls, Georgie and Livi, at the beach, sadly as I stepped off the tram, it started to rain!! GREAT!! I went to see their hostel and got an idea of the sort of places I will be staying after Melbourne. We then made our way back to my apartment in the city, I am getting very good at the trams now!! The city is similar to New York by the way the roads work, they are in blocks and there are only a few major roads so I pretty much know the city centre now. We got ready for out night out back in St. Kilda, the suburb nearby. We played some drinking games before we hit the road and all got to know each other a bit better!! The night out was brilliant, it was very busy with lots of Australian Flags about. We partied hard and I twice was told off for dancing on the furniture...oops!!! At about 4am we caught a taxi back home and we stopped at McDonalds!! However, I have a bet on with Harry, my roommate that I will not have a single McDonalds whilst I am here so I had to wait for my toast when I got home!! At 5am I eventually rolled into bed.
Sunday
Today was a very lazy day, we did not get up until about 1:30pm and then we watched TV and the final of the Australian Tennis Open, sadly on the TV not at the arena. I made myself a very impressive salad, my mummy I'm sure will be pleased to know I am trying to eat healthily!! I have been rather impressed with my cooking ability, so far no flames have been seen and I have not burnt any toast. Ihave however cooked rather a few meals now!! I am starting to experiment, I have done Spag Bol, Tomato & Bacon Pasta, Salads, Steak and Potato and Peas and Harry has taught me how to make Mash Potato. FOr those of you that have witnessed my cooking I hope you are impressed (Note to Parish household: please do not expect me to cook for myself whrn I return!!)
Monday
We get up slightly earlier today to make the most of the Bank Holiday and we go to St Kilda beach. It is 32 C and complete blue skies. We sunbathe for a while and then, being the tomboy I am I am tempted by the game of catch in the sea. Therefore I join the six lads and we play with this amazing ball that bounces on water...the most fun I have had in the sea!! We splash out and have a meal on the seafront, a Pizza Express style pizza (sadly without the Bruschetta) for $5 dollars (thats about £2.30) and it was so good, and the view to the sea was amazing. So that will become our regular Monday night spot!! We leave the beach at 7:30 and it is still lovely and warm...really i'm just having a prolonged holiday!!! In the evening we go to a Pub in the centre of Melbourne where the have a $1 pint special, the boys lap it up but after saturday I wisely stick to the Diet Coke!! We all chat and I get to know all the boys a little more, our 'group' consists of...Harry, Tom, Charlie, Jamie, Adam and Aaron...then there's me, Georgie and Livi. It's a good group, with lots of banter and sarcasm so I fit in well!!
Tuesday
Today is my first day of work! I had to be up quite early which was a shock to the system!!!! I assist in the morning to learn how everything works then have my own lessons in the afternoon. I am teaching children between 5-8yrs!! I prefer teaching the littler ones as I can be more of a fool but the 8 year olds start to look at me funny when I ask them if they can see 'Nemo' at the bottom of the swimming pool!! I crash in the evening and Harry cooks me Chicken, broccoli, carrots and mash!! Very Yummy!!!! No fatty pizzas for us!!! I also get in touch with a sports leader at a local school who may be able to provide me with some more work!! So fingers crossed!!
Wednesday
Today is my second day of work, all goes fine and the kids are really lovely. I have two 4 year olds so it is nice to be more silly in the water!! Also...for those in the Swimming world, i do walk past Grant Hackett...and I was like OMG that is him right there training where i now work!! So that was very exciting!! I also have all my kit now so I look very professional in my blue uniform!! In the evening Harry cooks Spag Bol and I assist so I am slowly building up my recipe knowledge. With no oven or scales, one saucepan and one frying pan its does limit things but we are doing well so far!! In the evening we watch lots of TV and log onto the net to update this and the one and only facebook!!! Oh and I speak with Peter, the man linked to the school and he arranges an interview for tomorrow!! So fingers doubly crossed that I get some good work with some good pay!! But for now...Tom wants me to get off his computer so he can go to bed!!
Night everyone, loving and missing everyone!!!!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
