Chris got up very early again eager to find out if the road to Milford Sound was open yet, it wasn't. Which meant we were driving to Queenstown today. Chris could sense I was worried even more about the Nevis bungy jump now, it had taken over my mind completely that I could hardly stop talking about it. He got annoyed with me at times and told me to shut up and stop thinking about it, but I couldn't. I think he is nervous too and im not helping. He even reassured me saying I don't have to do it, but I told him I have to and not to say that to me! I need him to be as supportive as he can and not let me back out of it no matter what. To a lot of people I probably sound like I'm over reacting and maybe I am, maybe I'll actually enjoy it. I like fast, high roller coasters and I enjoyed the Tiger Moth stunt flight in Australia, the adrenaline feeling was so exciting, I just have to convince myself I will like it.
On our way to Queenstown I picked up a sowing kit, some of my clothes are beginning to feel the strain of backpacking, or as Chris keeps telling me, I'm getting fat! I've bought new clothes to replace the ones I started out with but being a hoarder I just can't let them go, so buy after buy my bag is getting heavier. Chris's bag is heavier too but he's not sure why, he has bought new clothes and replaced the old stuff so it shouldn't have changed. Afterwards we stopped in a corner cafe for a hot choccy and used the free wifi before finally leaving at 11am. A little later we stopped again, this time for diesel, Chris was really impressed how clear the roads were from all the snow the other day, even in the remote towns there wasn't even a bit of ice. If it would have been the case at home all of the roads would have been icy for days, people wouldn't go to work and children wouldn't go to school, but here everyone carries on.
We arrived into the outskirts of Queenstown just after 1pm. We passed a few mechanics so pulled in to get the vans brake pads looked at. A guy had a look at them and said the front ones were fine but the back ones were low but they still had fifteen thousand kilometres left on them. Chris rang Apollo to see if they wanted them changed but they didn't, in fact they were a bit arsy about it and questioned Chris for checking them without telling them first. I wondered why Chris looked a bit pissed off, then he had a go back at them. I asked him what they said and he said they just wanted him to keep an eye on them, said if he felt them crunching then he needs to ring them back, they also advised him not to break hard going down hill! I think it's a bit of a joke! We will probably be fine using the van this time but what about the next customers to use it? Chris said it's not our problem.
We knew when we hit the centre of town, the streets were buzzing with people, a lot of groups were wearing ski gear, we didn't realise it was a ski town. Chris really liked it and said it reminded him of his past skiing trips. If it's not too much Chris would like to book a trip while we're here, I told him I won't be going anywhere near the slopes, I'm useless at all sports and especially any that require balance, it would be a total waste of money and effort! Anyway I wasn't thinking about the skiing, every direction we turned there was a sign with the word BUNGY in it! It was advertised everywhere!
We drove into a caravan park but it was $48 for the night plus they charged extra for the shower, it was too expensive for us so we headed to another one. The next park was Queenstown Lake View Holiday Park, it was still expensive but a little cheaper than the last, we assumed then that all the parks in Queenstown would be expensive because of where it was, so we paid and found a parking space. To be fair it was in a great location, we were right in the centre of town which meant we were only five minutes from the bars. I hadn't ever been to a ski resort but I had heard the après ski was always good so hopefully if Chris was up for it we would go out one night here.
Once we were settled we cooked lunch then took a walk into town. There were lots of bars as I expected and plenty of clothes shops. We picked up a flyer earlier today advertising a 109 meter tandem bungy swing, I had an idea that perhaps if I did a bungy while attached to Chris it might help me better prepare for the Nevis afterwards! Chris was very surprised at me and didn't say no, he was really up for it so we went into a shop to get more information about it. After speaking to the shop assistant I was set on it, it made perfect sense so we booked it for tomorrow morning. We also booked a jet boat ride on a river through a canyon with the same company. It looked really fun and so many people had recommended it to us. Afterwards we went into a huge shop on a corner selling the dreaded Nevis Bungy plus other crazy jumps and swings. It looked so cool in there, they had bright colourful bean bags to sit on and examples of the elastic bungy ropes, we went over and hung on a few to feel what they felt like. They were a lot more springy than I thought, it didn't make me feel any better or worse. I really wished I could have been excited rather than nervous, but I just couldn't shake the sick feeling in my stomach, hopefully my bungy swing plan will work. Chris didn't want to book it until after the bungy swing tomorrow, just in case I changed my mind.
We walked around town for a little longer until we found a cinema, Snow White and the Huntsman was showing and we really wanted to see it so we booked tickets for the 5:45pm showing. We had two hours to waste so we spent it looking around more shops. This time we bought some thermal wear, long sleeve tops and bottoms for a really good price! They felt so thin but Chris assured me they would keep me warm.
Before we walked into the cinema we stopped in a small convenient store to buy something to eat, we got a spring roll and a huge hound dog to share. It was basically a big fat greasy sausage covered in batter, I felt a bit sick after but Chris liked it. We put some money into a chocolate claw machine but didn't win anything. Chris ran out of change so I walked over to the cashiers to se if I could get some, a little girl followed me also wanting some change for a machine. We both stopped and looked at the mile long que of customers lining up to by tickets, the little girl thought nothing of it and went straight up, pushed in front of everyone and got her change while the customers smiled at her. I didn't bother, I wasn't nearly as cute as the little girl so I doubted I would get the same reaction from them.
Finally we were able to go in and find our seats. As soon as we both sat down I realised I had lost my new gloves, I thought I must have left them back by the chocolate machine so I quickly ran back to see if they were there but they weren't, which meant I probably left them in one of the many shops we visited today, Chris wasn't happy with me.
The film was really good and we chatted about it on our way back up to our camper van, it was freezing outside now! So as soon as we got in we put the heater on high and Chris started to cook himself a pie for dinner, I said I didn't want one but then I changed my mind when he started eating it. He got frustrated because he said he knew I would change my mind, I said he should have thought about that then and put one in for me. He shared his pie with me while we waited for another one to cook.
The camper took ages warming up so we heated a hot water bottle ready for bed. Chris was really looking forward to the cliff jump tomorrow and was glad I wanted to do it, I suddenly realised I may have made a mistake and asked myself what if I'm putting myself through it twice!
