Happy New Year!!!
One word alone can sum up December 31st 2009 - that word is wow!!! What an awesome day capped with the amazing site of Sydney Harbour Bridge exploding as 2010 arrived. In life we have those moments we will never forget - for me this will surely be one of those moments.
We left with around 50 people from the hostel at noon and walked down to circular quay to catch the ferry across to Taronga zoo on the other side of the harbour. Water was kind of choppy on the way and there was the odd drop of rain so you can imagine what we were thinking after the christmas day wash out. That said spirits were high especially amongst us kids ( me).
We found our spot and put down our towles / blankets and opened up the cool bags - just 11 hours to go!!!
We instigated games of British bull dogs across the field much to the joy of the other spectators who cheered us on - we even got a standing ovation as Adam won the first game.
Several human pyramids followed which were awesome and then of course poms on tour, the football has to come out!
As darkness fell, the first firework display started at 9. As midnight approached we were still walking round in shorts as so warm. At midnight WOW - what a show. The sky and bridge just exploded into life. A sight that I dont think any of us there will ever forget.
Afterwards we headed back to the city which took soooooooo long. On arrival we did Auld Lang Zyne although none of knew the words. Then of course with a couple of the lads we broke out God Save the Queen!
Our night finished around 4am sat in Hyde park drinking goon whilst eating jelly snakes.
Great day and - one of my favourite times yet since leaving the UK
Anyway pics will follow - happy new year!!!
