Today is the last day in Paris, we are going to be sad to leave. On the last day we decided to show the kids the massive Antique Market located at the edge of Paris, St. Ouen. This market is so fabulous and is there year round. Beware though, no matter what the travel books say this market does not open until 9:00. The first year we came we got here at 6 a.m. and nearly froze to death looking for it because of course it was not open yet. It was a cool and rainy day, but going from one antique stall to another to both stay dry and look at the different antiques made the day perfect. Zach enjoyed looking at antique swords, firearms, miniature military men and canes. Emma liked the old toys, jewelry, and antique beaded purses. Dania liked the old dolls, interesting boxes and the jewelry. Andrew, Linsey and I enjoyed the beautiful chandlers, mirrors and interesting old silver and furniture. And what did we buy...wooden beads to bring home and string into necklaces. Today just wasn't the day to search and negotiate for antiques. Andrew and I will have to come back another time to do that.
After a not so french lunch in a diner in the antique market we decided to head back to the heart of the city. Andrew was interested in visiting the two infamous gourmet food stores, Hediard and Fauchon. These stores are near the Paris Opera and have high end jams, jellies, coffees, prepared foods, desserts and fresh fruits and veggies. Fauchon also has an entire storefront devoted to sweet treats such as flavored macaroons, chocolates and other confections. It is decorated with a lot of pink. We tried to sit down to get some dessert in the cafe's at both places and found the service so bad we ended up leaving both and finding a chocolatier cafe nearby. We sat outside and had some hot chocolate and some heavenly chocolate desserts.
We headed home quite tired and ready to put everything together to head back to Pittsburgh tomorrow.
Au Revoir, Paris! Thanks for the great memories
