Today our intent was to visit the Rodin Museum, the Picasso and the explore the Tulleries Garden. After some trouble figuring out whether the RER (local train, which is closest to our apartment) could be used as a Metro (subway) we arrived at the Rodin Museum at 12:15. We did discover you could use the RER but the trains do not run as frequently as the Metro and the RER does not make as many stops. Andrew and I were quite surprised when we arrived at the Rodin Museum that it was completely different than the last time we were there. Funny that things would change in 10 years. Construction was continuing throughout the gardens but many of the sculptures were still accessible. There is also a lovely cafe in the gardens which is new since the last time we were there. While on the way to the Tulleries garden (yes the plan for the day was working) we asked the kids what they liked best about the Rodin Museum..Emma and Dania both said the "Thinker" and Zach said he like the guy who looked like he was playing the "air guitar". I realized he was talking about the sculpture of St. Jean Baptiste preaching (or playing the air guitar, same thing). Attached is a link to the sculpture so you can see for yourself and make your own interpretation. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:St-John-the-Baptist-Preaching.jpg
The Tulleries had a great little carnival that the kids loved and then to the cute cafe amongst the gardens for the adults. We wondered to the L'Orangerie to see the Monet waterlillies (only to find it closed on Tuesdays). By that time the kids were done (the best laid plans of mice and men) so we headed back to the apartment. Andrew and I went to pick up dinner just as any Parisien would do we went to the wine store, the boucherie (meat store), the boulangerie (for bagettes), the fromagerie (cheese for our bagettes) and the vegetable stand. Oh what a wonderful life!
