Well only two days left in Paris and we are feeling pretty sad. It has been a wonderful vacation.
We have been so busy, and Bastille Day yesterday was so exciting and such a long day, we decided to just walk around a few areas with the main goal of exploring the Bouquinistas. All along the right and left banks of the Seine River are green metal cabinets that flip open and book sellers stock them with books (old and new in various languages), paintings, old maps, old postcards and magazines, as well as small tchotchkes. These book sellers along the Seine have been in existence since the mid-1600's. We explored block after block of these book sellers then headed to lunch at a cafe called St. Andres (and with a name like Andre' it has to be good). The weather was spectacular, and the kids wanted to go to the playground behind Notre Dame so after lunch we wondered in that direction. We came across a little square in the latin quarter where in front of a large fountain there were a lot of people and kids were hanging out. There were students selling their college books, an artist carving some sort of chalk like stone and a man making large bubbles with two sticks with a string attached in a circle between the them. The kids ended up chasing bubbles for quite some time and we enjoyed watching the interesting people in the square. We finally made it to the park behind Notre Dame and discoved a bridge known as Pont des Arts in which people place "locks of love" (padlocks with their name(s) and date then lock it on the metal links of the bridge). After playing for a while, we explored some of the locks and wished we had a lock to place on the bridge as well. As luck would have it, we passed a Bouquiniste near the bridge that was selling locks. We purchased one, put our names and dated it and padlocked it to the bridge. We placed it on the right side of the bridge if you are standing on the Left Bank side (side opposite the side that is jam packed with locks and on the bank opposite Notre Dame) near the top. So if you ever find yourself in Paris look for our lock "The Stewart's and Linsey 7-2011".
We made our way back to our apartment and did a little relaxing then went out to dinner. Unfortunately Linsey caught a stomach virus and ended up heading home before dessert. Dani went with her to keep her company and actually rubbed Linsey's back. She told Linsey that's what mommy does when she get's sick. Such a little caretaker. So winds down another day in Paris.
