A sneaky update today - I've cut my afternoon class and done the hot and dusty trek into Naranyghat to change money and pick up bits and pieces before I depart for Pokhara on Saturday.
Cockroaches in my room for those of you wondering. Frankly, I'm so bored of daal bhaat now that it's tempting to try them in garlic as suggested.
Great day yesterday - went to a local festival (called Bikram Baba, which I keep mishearing as Big Rum Baba). It involves queues to get in and park, a long trek through stalls selling dubious looking food and plastic tat (so far not much difference to home!) and then a clearing deep in the jungle with bells ringing, incense burning and goats and pigeons being sacrificed. Note to self: religion, freaky.
Apart from the cultural aspects I really enjoyed the day because I got to ride on Deba's motorbike. First time on a bike since I sold mine, first time pillion, first time with no safety gear whatsoever. The roads (stony, dusty dirt tracks) mean your speed is pretty limited, apart from when hooting really loudly and overtaking laden buses, obviously. On the way back, Deba was obviously happy that I wasn't going to fall off, so we went back along a cliff track on the river bank. So exhilarating! Haven't come down yet...
