Greetings from your Nepali correspondant - Namaste.
Not a huge amount to report this week - the days kind of blend a bit really! It's getting pretty hot in the Terai now, mid 30's most days.
I'll be teaching on my own for a week from tomorrow - Chris (the other volunteer with me at Sitamai) has returned to Kathmandu today. Lots of volunteers over at Happy Home though (currently Sukan, Lara and Kelly). We've been helping the kids revise for exams this week (after teaching in the village). They do a lot of rote learning, doesn't seem very effective as they struggle to apply what they've learned to different situations.
The village kids that we teach in the afternoons (the ones whose parents either can't afford or don't bother to send them to school) have been a struggle - the part time Nepali support person hasn't been there, dealing with 20 odd kids with little english ranging in age from 2-10 has its moments! Plus basic hygiene and social skills are somewhat lacking. I confiscated 2 razor blades and a scythe this week... and sent them all off to wash.
Then I'm off to Pokhara, looking forward to the lake and the mountains! I should have time before setting off on the trek to upload some pics - it's been difficult to do here because of only having internet access for a limited time (I need a photo shop to put the pics on cd, and the variable electricity situation makes it all worse!)
Please excuse any typos - the keyboard I'm using has no visible letters. Although that makes it marginally less confusing than the Cyrillic one I had to use in Russia...
Love to all!
