The last few days we have spent in the truly magical Longji rice terraces, staying in these two amazing villages, with no vehicular access, set high amongst the terraces. The walk up to our first village took about 40 minutes from the car park and yet again the temperature was causing us slight sweating issues.
We arrived at our guesthouse built in the traditional wooden style. We had a bit of a shock when we saw our en suite had a squat toilet instead of a western one. Putting that aside we enjoyed a delicious banquet meal, which was rather well deserved after our climb. After that we were treated to a local minority show, by the women of the village who came dressed in their traditional outfits. They sang and danced for us and also one of the women showed us the famed long hair of the Yao tribe, which reached all the way down to the floor. They wanted to show us their traditional wedding ceremony so a male was chosen from our group, Trevor from Australia, this included him giving her his fake rolex watch which she ended up keeping.
The next day the group was set to do a 4 hour trek through the rice terraces,to our next village and place to stay, unfortunately I wasn't very well the previous night and had to get the bus instead. I wasn't the only one as two other girls from our group had been ill also. We still had a 30 minute wall to the bus and a 40 minute walk up to the next village and with a dodgy tummy it was not pleasant.
Pete meanwhile had a great time enjoying the views and more importantly the hat he had bought in Yangshao. We had an early night as we were both shattered, unfortunately this didn't go to plan what with noisy neighbors and Pete being ill at 2.30 in the morning.
Importantly we are both feeling much better now and are waiting to catch our sleeper train which will take us to Hong Kong, so we are both excited, especially me as the shopping is supposed to be really good.
Take care and we will update you soon.
