Another sleeper train, another destination, this time Kunming. We arrived around 5.30am so after a short orientation walk we headed to bed for a couple of hours before heading out to find some breakfast. It was a lovely warm day so we walked to the Green Lake Park and wandered through on our way to the Yuantong Temple, admittedly we got rather lost which didn't help as it was getting hotter and Pete's neck was starting to burn, which he blamed me for not packing any sun cream. We finally found the temple and it was beautiful, with the sun shining and the blue sky the colours looked amazing and we got some amazing photos.
On our way back to the hotel we came across a market selling all sorts of lovely jewellery and crafts. Just before we reached the hotel it started to rain and there was thunder and lightning, luckily we didn't get too wet and had time to grab our rain coats before meeting the others and heading out for some food.
Our leader Suzy chose a hot pot restaurant as it is quite big in China and we hadn't tried it yet. Because there is so many of us we had our own private room which was lovely, we each had our own stove and pot of broth to cook the meat and vegetables in. We chose some dipping sauces and then they bought the meat, fish, dumplings, meat balls and vegetables out for us to cook. It was great fun with everyone asking if theirs was cooked or not, appreciating we had a 12 hour bus ride the next day we were keen not to give ourselves food poisoning.
