There are going to be two blogs today because we have spent the first half of the day finishing up events and sites near the Mývatn lake them drove about and hour and a half away to Akureyri!
Ok so the morning was laid back, walked around a couple pseudo craters where my travelling partner decided to pilfer some more blueberries! They were about the only things that were free here, but I digress. The next place we went was to the supermarket so that I could get some lady necessities, then checked out and headed to the blue lagoon of the north! If you were not aware living over a volcano area enables some advantages to allow residents to swim year round outside, and that is what we did. In traditional Icelandic way, we headed to the baths to soak in the hot spring pools. To our surprise we found ourselves swimming along some fellow Canadians. We found this out because a group of South Korean documentarians were filming us in the pool and ask of they could interview all 6 of us swimming. The first couple was from Montreal, then it was our turn. They asked us to come closer because of course they were not getting in the water themselves. Bonnie was the interviewee. And so if you are ever in South Korea watching television and you happen to see Bonnie talking about cakes in he ground and blueberries you will see us floating around in the pool!
The pool was amazing, the only downside of course was how we smelled of sulfur after a while, will need a shower again when we reach our next hotel! After the baths we took off for the next city. Not before stopping at one more waterfall however. This one was on the way, and it was called Gooafoss. Supposedly, in the early days when Iceland was about to adopt Christianity the settler in the area decided to get rid of all his pagan worshiping idols and her threw them into the falls. Hence the name waterfall of the gods. Yes well, time to go, waterfalls done! Next stop Akureyri!
