This morning started out with some fairly bright sunshine! So we decided to gorge down on the buffet breakfast to have enough energy for all exploring! We chased the sun and were lucky to stay ahead of the vast amount or tourist busses following our route! First stop was the amazing waterfall Seljalandfoss! It sounds like a some saying sellyourlandfirs! We had come prepared this time with our slickers and gear all ready to keep us dry! Even went behind the falls to get an amazing view! Since yesterday we felt bad about the many travellers hitching, we decided to pull over and pick up Sarah, she had been camping in the cold wet night and was heading in our direction. She's from France and had recently spent July travelling through Quebec! When she asked if I had been to some of the places in Quebec she travelled to I told her that I had not been so fortunate. I failed to mention that being around French Canadians was not how Torontonians like to spend their travel time. Our next stop was another beautiful set of waterfalls, which because of the rain coming down hard I refrained and decided to stay in the car and discuss other world travel with Sarah. She had been many places too, like Florida, Norway, and of course all over Europe. She's from a little town just outside of Paris where she teaches little children, and in her summers she travels. Nice gig if you can get it. I told her I travel too, but not as much as I hoped to. And while Bonnie was braving the rain to catch some great shots of the Skögafoss waterfalls, Sarah showed me some amazing picks of her overnight trip she did to Greenland a few days before! Beautiful scenery, with the icebergs next to the inuit village she stayed in, but a little cold looking for me. After Bonnie got to the car, and of course the rain stopped..we made our way down to the south east coast to see some beach! Black rock beaches! The roads where amazing, hardly anyone around! The sun started coming out as we left Vik, and Sarah decided to stay on until Kirkjubæjarkalaustur. Ya thats right...i meant to say that! It was just outside this town that we saw some breathtaking scenery on the road, and 'off'! It's true, in the heat of moment we decided to test the 4wd feature in the car and headed down a road that few amateur drivers would dare go down. And what we found was nothing short of breathtaking...literally! We found a canyon that was off this campsite called Hunkubakker! I called it the hump backer. It's the pick for this blog. We walked up the hill, Bonnie went to the very top, and as I started getting a little overwhelmed with how far up we were, I decided to make my way back down to where the sheep were grazing. Although those suckers can go pretty far up as well sometimes.
After the canyon, we made our way over to our hotel, dropping Sarah off at the local gas station (there's only one in the town) and made our way to our little farm house guesthouse. Since the sun was still out Bonnie and Made some quick trips around the mountain area where we enjoyed some beautiful landscapes, like the one I set as the profile pick on FB! Oh and I can't forget having hot the black sand beach where Bon has taken some great picks with her new camera. Now we are settled in what feels like our luxurious hotel, the sun has finally set and even though there is still light the sheep has settled in for night so we have too. Until tomorrow!
