Once again, we woke up early to a view most hotels would kill mass amount of vegetation for! It was breathtaking, and we wanted to keep ahead of the sun so we headed out just as soon as we finished out pancakes! The farm house guesthouse was lovely, the service ok-but the view well worth it! Off to hiking today. The first stop was somewhere in between two massive glaciers near where the volcano left a trail of lava dessert! Before the fist stop, we had about a 50 minute drive through an actual lava dessert! It was like the scenery in the prairies in Canada, except there are mountains on one side and a dessert of black lava ground on the other. All I could think driving was what if the ground were to give out on us just as we were on the rickety old bridges we had to pass on! The sky was grey on this side of the island as well so not the bright and sunny we wanted. I had to go to the bathroom soon so we said we would stop at the next station...well there was no station for a long long time! I was bursting by the time we decided to turn off into an information station, which just happened to me the location of our first stop! Great navigation Bonnie! Lol! We stopped, did our business then prepared for our first hike, it took is to the first glacier I have ever seen, it was nice?! I guess, but dark from the lava mud, the vegetation and waterfalls around it however were nice to look at. When we got back to the car, there was still one more hike to go, having to long drive and even more driving ahead, I decided to forgoe the second one and take a nap at the car. Bonnie went ahead and came back thoroughly hiked! Then it was off to the next stop, which took us just outside the lava dessert. Now this view was indescribable. Lets just say that I had screen savers at my window during the drive! And at a few stops along some dirt roads we managed to find some of the most brilliant views of glaciers! Now this is what I expected, blue skies, white snow and icicles floating in little lagoons. We'll post pics soon! After a few more iceberg and lagoon stops we made our way to our hotel. It was a little hard to find, but nice enough. Instead of partaking in the buffet dinner we decided to drive into the local seaport town for some lobster, the restaurant Bonnie found through lonely planet. Best part about it was the bisque I had, the Northern Prawn I had were not what I expected, especially the pregnant ones! But a good experience in that, as we got to see a little fishing town. By the time we left the restaurant it was getting dark. And having to drive in the dark and with fog setting in was not what I was looking forward to. We made it back safely though, but I can't say the same for the bird that flew intoy grill!ay god rest his soul! Once back at the guesthouse we didn't last much before zonking out to sleep! Good day though, and looking forward to the adventures that the east coast will bring us!
