Trains, planes and automobiles. Crazy night market and our new home for the next week!
Tambon Si Phum, Thailand
So it was another early start and a few hours travelling ahead of us, we checked out the hotel and managed to get a taxi pretty easily. He agreed to use the meter so we were on our way. 61 baht later and we arrived at Siam BTS. We got out the taxi and got our backpacks on, in doing this James's Mountain Dew fell off and hit the floor, the lid split and it ended up spraying everywhere! We tried to find a bin, but there wasn't one anywhere! Typical. We ended up finding one at the BTS station kiosk. Great start to the day! We had to pay 22 baht to go 2 stops to catch the Airport Link train, the BTS was pretty rammed and it didn't help that we were stood there with our backpacks on. The Airport Link was a little walk once we arrived at the station, it cost 90 baht to go the airport so all in all a pretty cheap transfer and actually quite quick. Bangkok traffic gets pretty crazy so we could have been stuck for a while in a mini van or taxi.
Check in was easy apart from the fact I forgot to separate the liquids into a plastic bag so we went on a man hunt trying to find one. Luckily a lady in boots gave us one so we went through the checks then headed straight for Subway - YAY
I also snuck in a cheeky Krispy Kreme afterwards.
We didn't have to wait long in the airport and we were on the plane in no time, had a winner with the seats we booked, nobody behind us so we could fully recline for the whole 1 hour. Whoop, Luxury for us!
On arrival in Chiang Mai everything went smoothly (for once) and we got to our hostel pretty sharpish. All taxis to the centre of Chiang Mai have a set fee of 150 baht (£3) so we weren't going to be ripped off. It took around 15 minutes to get from the airport to our hostel. We like the look of Chiang Mai from what we can see when we were driving through and luckily our hostel was in a great location.
Our room is very basic but clean with the essentials - It just docent have a window which makes it so dark in the morning! No idea what time it is.
We headed straight out to have a nose around, decided we were hungry and grabbed some Italian from a nice place called 'Casa' Just 2 seconds round the corner from us.
We then decided to take a walk to the Saturday walking market we got half way there, spotted a white & purple moped and had to hire it… of course. For 700 Baht (£14) for 5 days it was a bargain. I even got a purple helmet to match! James ruined the theme and went for matt black (it was that or blue flowers).
We got caught in so much traffic on the way to the market (stuck in traffic in a moped?? is that even possible??) there was a lot of traffic because quite a few roads were closed off, tuk tuks, cars, taxis and mopeds everywhere! - So James had to think like a thai and drive abit crazy (much to my dismay). We managed to park down a nice quiet side street in the end which was right next to the market.
It was now time to get fully involved in the market - We were tired and James was hating life so we didn't grab a lot of the street food but we did try sticky mango and rice, James thought it was ok but it made me feel sick. Those 2 things should stay separate! It was just chaos everywhere, so many little stalls selling all sorts! People playing the guitar (quite badly) and an old woman doing some traditional thai dance in the middle of the road! So we jumped back on the moped and stopped at a bar just down the road to take on a couple of Chang, standard!
We then headed back to our cosy little room to get some shut eye, it had been a long day and princess price gets tired.
We booked a night time safari for Wednesday night and sorted out a few other activates but struggled with the wifi so soon nodded off.
Tomorrow would be another full day of temple bashing. Woooooo!
J&K over and out!
