So we've arrived on our little Kesam Island resort and its very peaceful and quiet, we ate here last night an the food was great, there beer was a little expensive but we have no other choice than to get a boat to the main land and go in search of some food which is a tuk tuk or taxi ride away. So we were happy to just chill here. The place is great, the bed is super comfy and the view from our room is amazing. Although theres not much chance of a cheeky lie in as once the sun comes up, the room suddenly illuminates and its time to get up! The only downside is that the toilet is outside, so theres a few lizards that like to take refuge here at night, once you pop the light on and open the door though they soon scatter.
We've been running low on clothes the last few days so dropped some off for washing yesterday and picked them up today, so we thought maybe its time to re-organise our backpacks. After two weeks of living out of them they definitely needed to be reorganised. Our washing came to 100 baht, so thats about £2, bear in mind we had two weeks worth of washing weighing about 5kg! So mother if we do end up coming home I now know the going rate for washing! ha ha
We've thrown some things away and sorted everything else. Now knowing what we use most and are likely going to need helped massively in knowing how to repack. We've put our converse, light jumpers and just un needed items at the bottom, followed by our lonely planet guides for Aus/New Zealand (were not ready for these yet) :-) The rest is just filled with our essentials and clothes. We've dumped our shower gel (dont worry were still washing) most places supply enough to get us through there days/night were there anyway. So the backpacks now weigh less, are easily manageable and actually have some organisation too them! This makes Kara a very happy bunny.
We took on another McDonalds today, Ive gotta say we love the XL size over here, the Shogun burgers and the double Big Macs but the McFlurrys are tiny! Whats going on?? They super size there meals, but reduce the size of the McFlurry?? Poor effort!
This morning it was time to take back our beloved little moped, its done us well and we've put around 400 kms on it over the course of a week. Its been to a safari park, waterfalls, temples, around all the little backstreets and several restaurants/bars along the Kanchanaburi Strip. After a quick damage assessment (none as im actually a good driver-James) and our 2000 baht deposit was given back in full :-)
We managed to get a little tuk tuk back to our resort and have spent the rest of the day chilling in the sun. Taking a day off to spend some time to top up the tan from Mexico.
We've also been planning our next few days, were getting on a minibus tomorrow and heading upto the Saiyoke District where we will stay at The Floathouse on the riverside. This is quite exciting as its the most expensive hotel we've booked and is finally a little bit of luxury for us!
Were only spending one night here, but plan to visit the Huay Mae Khamin waterfalls whilst in the area and possibly the HinDad Hot Springs and possibly a few caves. We are looking at staying in the Thong Pha Phum district possibly for a few nights so we get a good amount of time to see all of these things.
Once were done were going to head back to Kanchanaburi on the Death Railway, the train takes around 2 hours to get back but is apparently a MUST DO! It passes some incredible scenery and is a great piece of history. Once were back we head off to get a bus back into fully experience Bangkok.
We will keep you updated along the way.
J&K over and out!
