Christmas present day! I brought James a surprise trip as a christmas present, unfortunately i let slip this morning that we were going fishing… I have literally kept it a secret for so long and then i just go ahead and say it i was so sad!! :( But ANYWAY.
We checked out @ 12 thinking this would be more than enough time for get there as i had booked the slot for 2pm-8pm. So we headed on our with considering i had about 5 bags to carry on the back off our moped this was going to be quite an uncomfortable journey.
And then anyway we must have taken a wrong turn or something but we ended up in the middle of a jungle and then it started to piss it down, luckily we had our raincoats so pulled over to put them on, i could hear a monkey the whole time right near us but i couldn't see it! :( We carried and i took a look at my phone it said 15km until the end of the jungle… This couldn't come soon enough.
We came to this hill and i mean all hills are pretty crappy but this was a vertical hill no way around it…oh and it was still pissing it down.
We held our breaths and tried to conquer the incline. FAIL.
We got half way up and the moped would go no more, but instead of just stopping so i could depart moped it stated to roll BACKWARDS…We could get no traction because of the waterfall coming down the mountain (hill) I was literally ready to fall off into the middle of the road and await a wild animal to come and find me. I jumped off and lost my flip flop the process, i was very upset about this but managed to recover it just before a car ran it over (yes i risked my life for my flip flop but i'm very fond of them!)
Anyhoooo whilst i was stressing about my flip flop James was nearly at the bottom of the hill after eventually managing to stop the moped, yay well done! But noway in hell was i about to get back on this moped after it tried to kill us, so i took my beloved flip flops off and proceeded to walk up the mountain, with all the bags may i add! Whilst James leisurely rode up…NOT HAPPY.
After we eventually got out of the jungle (i have no pictures of any of this, was not really the first thing on my mind) i thought the worst was over, i was wrong! We got lost and ended up riding up a very long path to a private villa (we didn't know this) until a security guard stopped us to ask what we were doing, i just looked at him and asked, TopCats Fishing?!…Erm no! haha
So we stopped at a 7/11 to top our Thai phone up (pay as you go so 2000) and i rang our destination, he was abit simple to say the least and not that helpful so we just carried on down the road with our fingers crossed. AND THEN a monsoon came… like literally the biggest hardest rain you have ever seen ever! It was a case of do we stop and just stand in the rain or carry on and continue to get completely pelted by it? We carried on…
After 10 minutes we saw a sign for Topcats, YESSSSS Best moment ever!
We pulled in, walked into the lobby and everyone just turned round and laughed, we looked like we'd just jumped into a swimming pool. Worst journey ever!
We waited about 15 minutes and the monsoon passed thankfully So we were straight out to start fishing, we had 2xlines and a little man came to set them up for us. Now me nor James have ever been fishing before so we were praying that a fish didn't decide to eat whatever was on the end of our line because we had zero clue what to do if it did.
Not long passed and a stupid fish decided to do just this…We both looked at each other and then i pushed James towards the rod whilst shouting HELP! Luckily we have 2 guys from Manchester next to us who were keen fishermen so one of them ran over to guide James on what to do which was very helpful!
Everyone kept saying, ooh thats a big one that is! I have no idea how they knew that we hadn't even seen the bloody thing yet!
After about 10 minutes (i had no idea it took so long to reel a fish in) the fish was caught, YAY James first fish! It was a massive Mekong fish which was pretty cool! Then was the moment he had to jump into the lake to have picture with it, surprisingly he wasn't overly excited to do this. They have up to 265lbs fish in the lake, i wouldn't want one swimming past me either!
Once all that excitement was over James was pretty confident on how to catch a fish now, so the line was put out again and the wait began, before long another fish decided it was hungry and James was up again, it was another Mekong, Same same but different to the first one. I decided to jump into the lake with him this time to try and claim some of the glory, Fish are very slimly…
Just after we'd had some lunch James caught another fish which gave him abit of a run around but it came in eventually! It was a Siamese Carp, I like this fish it was fat and round, my favourite :)
James was getting pretty tired now, these fish were strong! But we decided to see it out for one more catch, it was dark now, Officially night fishing! haha
I had booked until 8pm & at 7.30pm the last fish was caught, James was vey happy & so was i the fact we could now to go our boat and chill out after such an adventurous day!
The place i booked to stay was a boat house, it was awesome inside with a big double bed, Just as we were walking in a massive monster decided to introduce himself on the door, it was the biggest lizard we've seen since travelling and it just so happened to be on my boat house… grrr But as soon as the flash went off on the camera he was soon gone!
We settled down, watched a film but were asleep pretty quickly!
J&K Over & Out x
