After teary goodbyes to loved ones at the airport Melita & I arrived at Tullamarine airport to begin the first leg of our journey - both loaded to the hilt with luggage (weighing in at a perfect 23kg). A lovely gentleman (Mr Aaron Lane) came & swept us away from the airport & kept us both entertained & fed till our flight that night. This was greatly appreciated as it saved us staring at the airport walls for 8hrs & was a great chance for me personally to see my wonderful friend (thank you for the gorgeous gift).
Our flight left Melbourne at 10.55, we were both buzzing with excitement that it was finally happening & drifting into a daze that we would be leaving you all behind. Qatar airways was a great airline, however no matter how I try jazz it up the flight was hard & took its toll (I currently am sporting cankles & let's just say London may have to contend with more than just rain - there is a high chance of WIND).
The first stretch was from Melbourne to Doha, this was the longest leg of our journey, with the flighting taking about 14hrs. We were fed regularly, which not only confused the internal clock even more as we were being fed every couple of hours, but made us feel full & bloated as we couldn't walk it off (and of course we could have simply said no more, or not eaten everything but you all know that's not how I work).
We arrive in Doha in the early hours of the morning; I have managed to sleep 6 hrs. and feeling pretty good, Melita dozed off & on. Here we had a short stop over, only 2hrs before jumping back on the plane for another 6.5. Funnily enough this was the harder leg, as you didn't really settle being so short & we just wanted to get up.
London skies great us at 1.30 in the afternoon - grey & overcast of course. We grab our luggage & head to the underground, we get our first glimpse of the tube, it's also grey, but we are just so excited to be on it. We head in on the Piccadilly line, and get our first glimpse of what our new home looks like. We squeal in excitement at the first sightings of the red double decker bus, the classic black cab and of course the iconic telephone booth on our way into the city.
Our destination is Russel Square station, in Bloomsbury; this seems quite a normal popular part of town for tourists to start. We check in, and head up to our "deluxe" room - it could only be described as compact, but we made it work. Both exhausted, I was luckily enough to develop a migraine - Melita was a gem, medicated me & put me to beg, while we waited for Miss Anna Glumac to arrive. It was so good to see her after such a long time.
We went out for dinner, both of us delirious & nearly falling asleep in our dinner but Anna was very understanding and we were soon in bed (7.30pm) - dead to the world.
