As we leave St Goar, we are headed to our final destination - Amsterdam, by now 10mns into the bus ride and I am asleep, my body has me well trained. Today we went through Edam, and made a stop to visit a cheese and clog factory, I am really excited and will be buying my very own set of clogs!
As we enter we are shown how they make their cheese and the different ways they now flavour it - my favourite was the aged Edam cheese! We also get to see a how a clog is made, the man giving the demonstration has one clog finished in 10mins flat - amazing the way they are made. It is explain that a clog must be left outside to air for 5 weeks but not in direct sunlight or they crack! The shop is filled with amazing clogs - from the very old and traditional style to the new modern look that is apparently taking the health industry by storm - the guy is a great salesman and has us all reeled in - clogs are very light to wear, they are temperature controlled, and hard wearing. I walk away with a white & blue traditional pair with a windmill painted on the front.
We pile back on the bus and get ready for our bike ride, in the Netherlands there are more bikes than there are cars. We take a leisurely cruise around Edam on our bikes - I am re-learning the art form of a graceful ride and soon hooked again (it is a great way to get around). We pass canals, traditional windmills and beautiful little lanes filled with interesting houses.
We make our way to Amsterdam - a short ride on the bus, and get ready for dinner, I am giving tonight's entertainment a miss, sick, and think that a visit to the red light district might be a bit much!
