Another bus day as we make our way from Prague to the Rhine Valley , our first stop when we get to St Goar is a visit to the stein museum, they have and still make over 400 different types of steins - that are shipped all over the world. Here we also the largest hand carved cuckoo clock in the Guinness book of records.
Our river cruise this afternoon has everyone sitting back with a beverage as we get to see the region and what it is famous for - wine. Up on the surrounding hillside you can see many vineyards - some on a 90 degree angle - it is later explained to us they have a very special way of harvesting on this difficult terrain. As we cruise along the river, we see barges and many castles - this area has quite a few castles with a view, most now have been made into feature hotels or museums.
After dinner we are off to do some wine tasting, in the historic setting of a underground candlelit cellar we get to hear about the regions reputations as a leading white-wine producer. They have four different wines for us to try, finishing on the areas specialty - ice wine, which is quite sweet, and must have seen 6 frosts in a row to be a good batch - if it doesn't the whole crop is lost (a very hard industry I would imagine).
I am starting to get the cold that everyone has had - aircon on the bus (devil) and not in the mood for happy hour - what a night I missed, sometimes alcohol and tempers do not mix!
