Day 6 - Lucerne
Bright & early we head up to Mt Pilatus, which sits amoung the huge Alps. We catch a gondola or aerial cable car up the 2132m rock face, with stunning views of the rugged mountain range, lakes and fields of alpine flowers - I even spot a cow or two.
We catch the train down, which is the world's steepest cogwheel railway with a 48% gradient. It is a beautiful ride back down the mountain, and we are off to see how they make Swiss army knives. I am very tempted to buy one (when would I need it, I don't know) but how cool to get one where it was originally made.
From here we head into town to have a Swiss fondue lunch & folklore show! In the chalet-style inn our plates are piled high with authentic Swiss food - we have amazing fondue to start (mum I was given the recipe), then it is onto Swiss Bratwurst sausage & potato rosti - YUM. We get to see the Alpine horn being played as well as cow bells, yodelling & a flag dance!
This afternoon we have a river cruise on Lake Lucerne where we get to sit back with a wine & enjoy the stunning panoramas of typically Swiss scenes - endless green pastures spotted with chalets & more bell wearing cows, all surrounded by awe-inspiring mountains.
Tonight it's a dinner shared with a lovely Canadian couple who shared a bowl of fried chicken with amazing fondue - sounds strange but they guy had us sold! The night carries on, and many a drink was had by us all.
