Bonjourno - we slept in and gave the early Vatican city a miss - but don't worry, we will return & make sure we have enough time to take it in, today is the free day it is open, and in 40 degree heat, with crowds it wasn't appealing. We take our time to make our way into the city, we head to Spagna to see the Spanish Steps, and they are exactly as they are - steps, but impressive steps at that. Named after the Bourbon Spanish Embassy still located in Piazza di Spagna these 138 steps lead up to a huge church. We spend some time taking photos before exploring the area which is renowned for its shopping - we see big names such as Prada and Gucci (we simply window shop & dream big).
We catch up with everyone after an amazing lunch - pasta has simply never tasted as good! We make our way to the Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheatre), this huge Roman ruin is spectacular inside and out. We see where it has unfortunately been pillaged for the precious copper holding it together - it looks like it's got dimples, and where the gladiators would have battled, with both other men and animals such as lions.
Tonight is girls night out, and we do some research using both the help of my trusty Lonely Planet guide & google to find us some where delicious for dinner. We head into town to Macherroni's, a traditional Italian restaurant that is spilling onto the streets - here we indulge with 3 courses, starts such as bruschetta or prosciutto & melon, followed by of course pasta and to top it off - dessert, I go for a classic and have tiramisu (who wouldn't while in Rome). It was a great meal, to end a great day.
