Sooo I haven't written in a while. This is due to the fact that my charger for my Android has decided to give up on me and break! I thought that I was going mad- trying it in every plug socket going; but i wasn't. With my electrical skills (cough cough) I found that one of the leads inside has snapped. So it's internet cafes for me as I cant seem to find a replicate charger here :(. Apart from that, my week has been pretty amazing and it's about to get better. As the officail music teacher ABC's and Rice I have been asked to put on a musical at the end of the school year (which for them is in March) Yes, ABC's and Rice will be the new Glee :)! I must admit I'm pretty excited. It will however be a hugggeeeee challenge; organising music, dance and a script for 150 non-english speaking children. As the first musical ever to be held at the school this needs to be impressive. And I have 6 weeks! So lots of lesson plans to be done.
The theme in school this month has been 'dinosaurs'. My class have loved it; playing various games involving the theme and reading dinosaur books, their faces just light up when they are in class.
I haven't experienced teaching in the heat of the afternoon yet but as of next week ( as I now have a fully working bike :)) I will be able to cycle back and forth for the morning and afternoon sessions.....quite worried about braving the roads to get into school, it's very different to riding a bike at home!
The other night I went to a restaurant called Green Star...bugs in the bowls as I sat down but once I brushed them off it was all good. Last night I went out with a few girls into Pub street. Certainly the place to go at night. We went to the FCC for drinks first (where Angelina Jolie frequented when filming Tomb Raider) then to Angkor, famous for local dishes and I had my first taste of a traditional dish called Amok, it's similar to a Thai curry. Let's get the prices into perspective here; so at home i would be lucky to spend under 40 pounds on a night out...here you spend about 10! Food is normally $2.50 or more (that's £1.50) and drinks...... well a pint of beer is $1 and cocktails are roughly $2, while a packet of cigarettes are 40p...so basically if you're not careful you could become an alcholic smoker!
Yes I'm still as white as white as can be. One of the kids said that the sun bounces off of me, so I'm that white (nice ey). You have be be modest and respect their culture here...no boobs no bum is the rule, especially infront of the kids.
Tomorrow I'm off to Thailand for the weekend....In order to stay here for 6 months/around this area I need a business visa which i can extend in town; as the airport gave me a tourist one it now means i have to exit the country and re enter. A couple of other volunteers from the school also need to do the same, so we're making a weekend of it :). We're staying at a hotel in Thailand then going shopping in the hugggggeee market they apparantly have there. Excited!
Anyway, back to my lesson plans :p!
