Such an amazingly long weekend! The beach, the sea, the sand, the sun, amazing people and amazing company, one word -f ab! This, however, was only possible with a ten-hour night bus ride. So this bus; it was creaky, noisy, smelly and just awful but the seats were beds which was a plus and I did sleep all the way (apart from being woken up once thinking they were shouting 'South Wales' - I was highly confused). Once in Sihanoukville at 7am we (Rosie, Alyssa, Sierra and Jewel) found a place to stay within an hour! It was right by the beach and had one room for all of us…with a bit of spooning. We had a relaxing day, with threading and massages on the beach followed by a crazy night out which was mainly spent at a beach club called 'Dolphin Shack'. We returned to our guesthouse for an hours sleep after having had a little late night swim. We got up bleary eyed to meet four of our friends from Siem Reap (Tom, Vanessa, Andy and Anne-Marie). We then caught a small boat to a derelict island. Alyssa did us girls proud by 'chucking up' over the side of the boat every fifteen minutes due to the large amounts of alcohol consumed the night before. Lesson learnt ha!
Ko Ta Kiev - We were taken on a day trip before visiting the island. Here we snorkelled then trekked to a fishing village where we were rewarded with ice coffee (that was my only motivation throughout the two hour walk ha). Once we got to the place we were staying, may I remind you it was derelict, all I saw were a few tents and a few hammocks - but the views were stunning. It wasn't what I was expecting, this was more Duke of Edinburgh style rather than the teepee-style tents I had in mind. Nonetheless we had an amazing dinner cooked by a lady on the island and a nice welcome by Liam who lives there. If I had known it was going to be proper camping (which I love) I would have been more prepared but not having a towel/sleeping bag/running water for a shower we all had to adapt - and quickly. The five of us girls who spent a night in Sihanoukville left early in the morning as we wanted to spend a full two days and one night on a beach we were recommended called Otres. And, oh my, it was stunning. This beach was a twenty-minute ride from Sihanoukville but a one hour boat ride from Ko Ta Kiev.
We left later than expected (Cambodian time) but found accommodation in Otres almost immediately. They were cute little white igloos/ bungalows near the sea front run by a couple of lovely Canadians, Liam and Derek, who also ran a beachside bar called 'Blame Canada' which we spent a lot of our time at. Otres beach front is very different to Sihanoukville. It's less commercialized (no shops or supermarkets) and very very laid back and classy as opposed to a touch of tack in Sihanoukville. I ate a gorgeous seafood platter that evening once the others had joined us from the island. After a lovely night out at the beach bars another late night swim was a must. This one, however, was AMAZING - swimming with plankton which glowed! So every time you moved your hands blue/white sparks floated around. It was magical, but thinking about it now we were probably very lucky not to get stung by jellyfish or something. Our next, and final morning, was spent being lazy and by the time we knew it it was time to leave for our night bus. It felt like we had spent a week here, in a good way! It was not only a sad goodbye to the coast but also to Tom and Andy who were not returning to Siem Reap but instead were off back to America.
Note to self - don't keep promising people I will return and considering job offers.

Liam Ahh I miss doing those day trips. Unfortunately that boat met with an unfortunate end, but we ripped it apart and are now in the process of building a bungalow out of it... Hope you come back sometime! When you came out we we just squatting while we were sorting out our land rights. We've since moved and have a much nicer spot... http://www.crusoeisland.asia http://www.facebook.com/CrusoeIsland
