Today was my travel day to bumpin' Farmington CT. I went and picked up my Chrysler Sebring rental car (it was either that or a Kia Soul or an HHR...) and made the venture back to the Constitution State. I've done the drive to the greater Hartford area so many times now that the drive seems to go by extremely fast. I was relieved to learn that the drive only takes five hours instead of six which I initially thought. That will make my midnight express drive back to Rochester on the 15th a little more manageable.
I checked into the Homewood Suites at about 5pm where I set up my computer/printer, polished off the remaining crackers and hummus for dinner and immediately began making my contacts to my insureds. I received eight claims today with the intent on getting more claims in the upcoming days. I really dislike it when I get claims this way. I would much prefer getting all my claims up front so that I can plan my routes better and avoid driving aimlessly around the area with no real direction. In a typical month long tour, we will usually receive a workload of anywhere from 60-100 depending on the volume but this time around, since this only a two-week tour, I'm anticipating getting about 25-30 claims to handle.
Usually the first two days are spent calling my insureds and setting up inspection appointments. Sounds easy and straight forward but basically I'm gathering as much information as possible about what and where the damages are in the home and verifying all sorts of policy information. For this tour though, I will be hitting the road on the very first day to see two houses in which sustained major water damage due to ice damming on their roofs. According to the claim notes and speaking with the insureds, these two will most likely require the most time to address...or they'll be very much exaggerated and will be easy peasy as most insureds like to embellish their losses (riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight).
16 days until the cruise! Hoping this tour will fly by quickly since I've already got tunnel vision (just like the hilarious photo for this blog). Early morning tomorrow.
