We escaped the heat of the coast for a few days by taking a trip up to the Cameron Highlands; a place famous for tea plantations, strawberry farms and the place that Jim Thomson went missing whilst on an afternoon stroll.
There are loads of walking trails in the area so after buying a ridiculous map (no north point, scale, levels or nodes) we set off with some friends in what we thought was generally the right direction. We managed to make it to the top of the mountain and with a bit of luck ended up at a strawberry farm on in the next valley. 2 punnets and a strawberry waffle later we were ready for a decent cup of tea (after not having one since the high tea in Hong Kong) so we flagged down a taxi to take us to the nearest plantation. One of the guys we were with had been on a tea plantation tour previously so he told us all about the process while we wandered around the valley between the pruned tea bushes saving us the expense of getting an organised tour.
The next day we were by ourselves and had spotted 'Robinson Falls' on the map that a certain someone wanted to investigate. Unfortunately the water was really muddy after the rain and we couldn't really see the waterfall so we headed along another trail through the jungle up a mountain, which was actually higher in altitude than Snowdon. The trail was really steep and overgrown so we were climbing most parts and were both covered in mud as we arrived back just as the heavens opened and a tropical rain storm started. We didn't make it to the butterfly, rose or bee farms so it's a good excuse to go back as it is a really picturesque place. With Chinese New Year and public holidays coming up we needed to move on in order to catch a flight from KL.
