It began yesterday evening: After having a delicious meal (Marlin again) at Oistins Fish Fry (every Friday there is a big crowd waiting to get the best grilled fish of Barbados), we decided to throw a short look at a car for sale I (Bernd) found on the newspaper - a 1996 Mitsubishi L200 Pickup Doublecab for 7500 BD$ (est. 2600 EUR) - a really BIG car! Is was already dark, so we couldn't see too much, but for the first view it was really great! Big wheels, nice rims and a slight menacingly look caused by some missing body parts - haha! I just said: "This is OUR car!". So we had to come back today in the morning and have another look at it by daylight...
Too bad that I wouldn't have time enough to fix all the little (and also bigger) problems this car had - the interior was really worn out, not to speak about the missing essential things like security belts, switches for the ventilation etc. But the worst things were a broken windscreen and a big rusty hole in the floor panel where the water would come in when driving in the rain.
I was really upset because it was nothing impossible to repair, but I really wouldn't have the time. Maybe next year...sniff
After this little disappointment I brought Belinda to her friend Kay, who lives near the Gun Hill Signal Station, for having a brunch date with Kay and some of her friends. As she told me, Belinda enjoyed it very much and had much fun. "We will have to repeat this at least once a month!" she said. I'm happy with her for having such nice friends already!
At about 2 pm, we had the next date which was with our French-Canadian friends from Villa Marie, Shannon and Frank. We planned to go to Bathsheba with them and show them OUR rum shop (and of course the beautiful landscape!). We made a complete round trip starting on the road to Speightstown, passing Cherry Tree Hill and then stopped in Bathsheba at OUR rum shop. We really had SO much fun, it was a great "lime" (liming means hangin' around and doing nothing) - just look at the photos! We were talking to locals - they already know us, enjoying the great view from the verandah and watching the really really big waves with the tiny little surfers on them.
Eloan, the barkeeper of the rum-shop was asking me to bring him a Austrian T-Shirt when I come back in January (he whispered in my ears that he will give me a bottle of finest Mount Gay rum for it). Keith, a very nice older man (76 years old) entertained us and introduced me into his very very exciting life, having 8 children from 4 different women (Belinda even told him that he is worse than me, having 2 children from 2 women). Much to laugh you see...;)
We left after dusk continuing the round trip by taking the road to St. Philip because we wanted to show OUR house to Shannon and Frank.
We got home at about 8:30 pm, happy to be here in Barbados (as every day) and looking forward to tomorrow:
We plan to get up not THAT early *gg*, to have a nice breakfast and - if the weather allows it - to go to the beach, Belinda and I must get some more tan!
