This was the final day to "legalize" our "new" car and guess what - we made it in time! Unbelievable..
But one after the other: Yesterday, I (Bernd) first tried to reach our car seller, we wanted to meet at about 9am. After dropping off Belinda at her office, I went to the place where his cars are wating to be sold. Almost 15 times I gave him a call but he didn't answer the phone.
I wasted about 2 hours waiting and calling and reached nothing. As it was nearly noon, I decided to go home and prepare some food for Melina. Thereafter (and after calling and calling again without any effect) I visited several insurance companies to get their prices. We chose the "Guardian General", because they only took 1224 BD$ for one year (the others were at least 240 BD$ more expensive).
Then, while picking up Belinda, once more I tried to reach the car guy and guess what: one fruitful telephone call! We instantly met at the car point (only 15 minutes later!), went to his house and exchanged money and keys.
With two cars now (the new one was still licensed), we got back to the insurance company and signed the contract to get the "cover note" (that is what you need here to get your vehicle licensed at the authority).
Subsequently we put Melina in the car and drove to "Aunty Lorene", the sister of Cliff (from our worship experience last saturday). Lorene is a very nice and gentle woman who does child care for many years and may take Melina next week during working hours. After a short meeting we decided to make a test day tomorrow.
The reason why we didn't write the blog on thursday: Belinda had to work "at home" in our room and didn't finish until 2 am.
FRIDAY:
After having a hard time gettin up from bed, Belinda decided to go to the office not earlier than 10 am, so we would have time enough to bring Melina to Lorene at about 9 (they had a great time, much action and fun). Then I let Belinda exit the car at the office and did some few meters to "The National Licensing Authority" where I entered the queue where a sign told me to. 20 minutes later, I came to the counter to a real nice lady who made so many efforts to help me...no no, just kidding! She was arrogant, most likely stupid and spoke so quiet that I couldn't hear her at all. She even tried not to move her lips while speaking so I wouldn't be able to read them either. What a fu.... bitc.. !
But in spite of everything, one message came through the thick glass panel between us and through the noisy drivel of the other clients: I would have to go the the appropriate office in Holetown, because of our current address in St. James.
So far, so good. After this Bajan "red tape" experience, I thought I was in Austria - just for a few seconds, haha! To make it short: In Holetown everything went right, I got the car licensed and some time later on we could pick up our license plates and put them on OUR car! Hooray!
