Acapulco! I didn't even realise that this place was in Mexico till a few months ago. Showing off my Geography skills.
Well, after arriving to get the bus Just In Time, we had a very pleasant journey trying not to watch a film about a teenage serial killer that had the volume turned up really loud. We hopped on a local bus to try and locate the zolcalo (where all the cheaper hotels were) and ended up at some random market place, where we got a taxi driver (who tried to charge us in dollars and then tried to rip us off. I think even after knocking him dowmn 30 pesos, we still paid way too much) to take us to where there were some hotels. We ended up in a really cheap one right next to a noisy street, but the owner (who lives there) was a really nice lady and helped us loads, showing us where all the nice bits of the beach were, and where to get the bus from etc.
We got showered (very sweaty and humid in Aca) and then bussed it over to the Hard Rock Cafe. The whole beachfront has loads of high rise buildings and expensive shops. It's really ugly, but there was hardly anyone about, as it was low season at the time. We walked back on ourselves after checking out what time the band started at the hard rock, and had a look in the nice air conditioned shops, got a few tees and stuff cos ours are on their last legs due to scrubbing them in a concrete sink with a bar of laudry soap every week, and after being acosted by every tourist guide person along the entire main street, we bussed it back over to the hard rock to have a proper dinner! (I swear, we do not know how to react when people talk to us in English. we generally just answer back in spanish, but it's really confusing, and it hurts our heads a lot).
After some beasty burgers, crepes and cocktails, and watching an hour or so of a really ace band do some quality oldish songs, we went back to the hotel and crashed.
Saturday morning, after a top brekkie from the supermarket, we had practically the whole beach to ourselves. Well, apart from the people who walk past every two seconds asking if you want a tattoo, or your hair braided, or some mango or prawns out of a skanky bucket. Masaje amiga? No! Get lost!
We then decided that we would risk getting our hair cut, as we were so hot and fairly bored. It was a mistake. I definately said to the muchcha, that I wanted it cutting to BELOW my eyes. But somehow I have ended up with a fringe. With all the icky hairspray stuff in it, it looked like a hobbit's hair do. So I very quickly went in the sea and put that right. I still am not convinced about the fringe, and went to the market outside the bus terminal in Mexico when we got back from Aca to buy some cheapy hairbands. ..... we shall see.
Anyway, after hair cut time, we sunbathed a bit more, then went to the zolcalo where we found a fantastic comida corrida, which is likea three course set menu for about 2 pounds, then back to the hotel to desand and have a siesta. We then walked up the hill to see the cliff divers, la quebrada. They were pretty impressive, jumping into the choppy sea narrowly missing rocks whilst the sun was setting. We weren´t very near (you have to pay) but we managed to get a pretty good view.
After a nice dinner in the zocalo of tacos al pastor (where there was an amusing incident involving me squeezing a lime a bit too forcefully and it shooting out of my hand onto the floor right in front of on e of the overkken waiters who thought we weree crakers when we wet ourselves laughing), we fully intended to go and check out one of the legendary clubs that have been recommended to us, but after such a mad week and all the travelling and the HEAT, we jibbed that off and went to bed instead. Maybe next time. :)
Sunday, after getting up early to have a last beach sesh, we bussed it back via KFC. As we couldn't get a bus back to Cuernavaca till half 6 at night, we had to do the extra 2 hours via mexico. We could have gone to cuernavaca late and got a market bus back to tepo, but the cooks had told us that it was dangerous at night. And the cooks know everything.
After arriving back and heading in the back of the kitchen to eat some cereal in the company of the amazing Georgina (she is Hilarious. always joking about how we are getting fat with frijole babies and how many boyfriends we have in town, and if she can be a bridesmaid or something when we marry mexicans etc.), we walked her to the gate, and then returned to the cabaña to face the army of cucarachas that we knew were awaiting us. There were 15 in total. Oaxala.
And that concludes our Acapulco weekend.
