Again, no pics as yet, never have long enough or a fast enough computer to do it all.
So, after a bus trip from hell, stoppìng off in some godforsaken place called juchitan or something, we finally landed at San Cristóbal de las Casas early this morning, Marion, Marthe and I that is. I don´t think I have ever been so uncomfortably hot on a bus before in my life. Yes, it was airconditioned, but still really sweaty.
Anyway, we´re in the trendily named ´Backpacker´s hostel´ free salsa lessons and internet on offer, although you do have to be good at dancing and queue. It´s a dead pretty town here, we went up to one of the villages in the mountains this morning. All the women wear like, this animal skin wooly skirt thing with a big cloth belt, and sliky blouse thingies, with really long hair in plaits with ribbons and stuff. And they walk around bear feet or with trendy old lady jelly shoes. It is like another world. We went into the church in the village, and you´re not allowed to take photos, but it was amazing. There were like, pine needles or something all over the floor, and drapes all over the ceiling, and people were sat on the floor in front of rows and rows of little candles all stuck to the floor with wax. It was like nothing I have ever seen before.
We also did the zocalo trip, and walked up some steps to a church. There are loads of indigenous people in the town selling all their crafty stuff. The kids are dressed exactly like their mothers too, which is really cute, but you can tell that a lot of them are very poor, and obviously don´t get by very easily.
It´s raining here at the moment, and quite cold, but I have given all my clothes to the laundry lady. The first time they have been machine washed in literally 5 months. It is incredible.
Anyway, hanging round with the two French girls and also two french lads that we met this morning in the hostel, is giving me the biggest language headache in the world. I don´t know whether to speak in french english or spanish (and every time I try to speak in french, I just say spanish words with a french accent.) And who knows if I am capable of having a real conversation in English any more. Flip!
Not quite sure of the plans for tomorrow, maybe just hang around the town. It´s a bit gay that it´s so rainy, but off to Palenque on Wednesday to have a look at the famous ruins over thataway.
