Well, after THE longest bus journey in the world (second class, really hot, really windy, green windows and uncomfy seats, bout 6 hours long), we finally landed at Manzanillo at about 11 o'clock at night. We caught a taxi out of the well swish bus terminal, and headed for the centre. At first there were loads of people there, and we wandered around trying hotel after hotel, with no luck. They were all booked up because of Semana Santa. Everyone in Mexico was on holiday.
So, after nearly giving up, we found a restaurant that was still open at midnight, and had some egg and chips there (and, more importantly, used the loo). Then, it was a choice between sleeping in the Zocalo or on the beach. We didn´t fancy the Zocalo cos there were lots of creepy men around, and we decided that even if we did find some chairs on the beach, we might possibly get drowned by all of the massive waves. So, after wandering around the zocalo, we came upon a tourist info board, which helpfully listed all of the phone numbers for the hotels! So (starting at the 2 star ones) we rang hotel after hotel. No luck. EVERYwhere was full cos of the holidays. Eventually, at about 2:30 in the morning, we gave up, and got a taxi to the bus station again, ready to get the first bus out of there in the morning. We were prepared to either wander round the 24 hour walmart til 7 in the morning, or sleep on our rucksacks in the station, but luckily, there were some really comfy seats in one of the cafe things in the terminal. There were other people already asleep there, so we were sure we wouldn't be kicked out or arrested or anything. (For the parents :) there were security guards and stuff, and there were people behind the desks selling tickets 24 hours, cos the buses leave dead late and dead early too, so we were´t about to be robbed etc.).
So after 4 hours of continually interrupted sleep (it was freezing and someone wanted to watch dodgy mexican soaps on the cafe´s telly at like, 5 in the morning), we woke up, staggered to buy some tickets to Colima, and after an amazing 1st class bus ride where we could Sleep! we arrived.
Colima is an absolutely gorgeous (if a little too hot) place, and I really love it there. There are loads of really nice squares with fountains and bandstands and stuff, and loads of cheapish cafes around them, and our hotel was in a shopping centre! well cool. (Admittedly, there were only like, 7 shops, and all were tiny boutiquey ones, but still)
We went and had an ace breakfast, as we deserved one after the night we had, and then set about wandering the baking hot, very sweaty streets. We came across a zoo, but we only looked at all the animals, for like, 5 seconds, because we all wanted water very urgently, and it was just too hot. There was a pool, but it was full of kids, and dodgy mexican pop music, and we were just to tired to handle it...
After an afternoon wandering around the shops and on the internet etc. we got changed and went to check out the cafes and stuff. There was a guitar band thing from the university playing in the main square, so I stopped and had a listen, there were loads of chairs set up for the audience, and loads of people were watching. A really old couple were dancing to the side of the bandstand, it was well sweet!
After that, we went for dinner, and then watched a film, cos we were all well tired, ready to leave the amazingly pretty town of Colima the next morning.
