Oh.. well, the only time that I would ever use the custom chichen itza pyramid photo that STA travel blogs provide in their photo list, and I find that they´ve gone and changed the sodding photos. So, here´s one of Palenque, which I saw a few days ago anyway, and put a photo of chichen itza for, yo creo. Ni modo. Again, photies when I have both my camera and lead, and a decent compu guey.
So, we went on a tour to chichen today, name taken from the massive sink hole, or cenote, that is there. A really cool pyramid in the middle, when you clap at the bottom of it, the sound echoes off and makes like, a squwarky bird noise. People used to think it was the eagle god talking to them. Also, we saw the court for el juego de la pelota, ball game, and there, they angled the walls in such a way, that when you clap, it repeats several times, and people used to think it was the gods clapping the players. They only played ´proper´games every 52 years. And by proper games, I mean the ones where they decapitated the captain of the team that won as an honour, a sacrifice to the gods, on a platform angled in a certain direction so that the sun would rise and people thought the captain´s soul had made it rise to start the next cycle of 52 years so that they all had food and stuff. I´m not explaining this very well, but in fairness, we opted for the spanish guide, and whilst all the information did go into my head, I am so not used to speaking english, that I have no idea how to put all the knowledge I have retained (what little there is in my head) into words.
But it was cool. It did rain fairly heaving in the afternoon like, and we did get soaked, but it was okay. A quick change later and we were ready to get the bus to Tulum! home of the beach pyramids (more culture guys, no sunbathing, oh no...). Small seat spat, two brits sat in our seats, so we just sat in other ones, then got kicked out by some irate mexicans halfway into the journey. I think the woman was the first mardy mexicana I have ever come across though in fairness.
So now we are in Tulum!!!! (and guess what! there are ready made pictures of this ubicación on the sta custom images ahora! que suerte)
