Wow.
Well, after the palava of checking into a rather unique and special youth hostel where we had to go the loo in the pool table room rather than in our dormitorio because... well, it was full of crap (so to speak); we found a sound place to eat (rather than overpriced touristy restaurantes) and then after a beer in the youth hostel ´bar´ we crashed for the night. Up in the morning, brekkie for free. I was shocked though. I have never seen such a messy table to eat of in my life (for the last 6 months). Every eatery here in Mexico is always completely immaculate. Tables and floor that you could eat off. But, after wolfing down toast and coffee, we got the complimentary bus to the beach, and walked to the ruins. We kind of sprinted round them, well, walked disinterestedly, it was Very hot. And full of american toursits, and guides that were quite obviously talking out of their backsides about the mayan ruins and their culture and stuff. It was hilarious. But yeah, the ruins kind of took second place to the flipping sea! Wow. It was actually turquoisey tropically talcum powder beachy! Never seen anything like it in my life that wasn´t in a tourist brochure. Carribean baby. So, after getting too sweaty looking at the cliff top mayan ruin view, we headed back to the beach, squeezed in under the shade of one of the very few palm trees knocking around, and did some serious swimming. Well, standing in the really blue bath water warm sea. What a hard life. And... seeing as it is so far a fairly undeveloped beach area, there were like, no more than 50 people on the beach, and you didn´t get the normal, tatuaje amiga? fruta amiga? pulseras amiga? baratos baratos that you get on all the other beaches I´ve visited.
Then, in the afternoon, it was the bus to Cancún, then the boat to Isla Mujeres, where the beaches are more full of people and bars, but the sea is even bluer.
