Today a group of 8 arranged to go to the Summer Palace with Lily. As it was a small group we made our way via public transport but not before we went to McDonalds - I know what you are thinking. I'm not even going to try and explain.
We got a bus to the underground - it cost 10p and then the train cost 20p. I don't know how I'm going to cope back in the UK! It was great experiencing the transport system rather than being chauffeured around.
The Summer Palace was only five minutes from the train station and we had a lovely afternoon there with Lily keeping us informed of the history and plenty of stories about the Dragon Lady and the Emperors. None of it disappointed and we even had a ride on a dragon boat across the lake.
A great day which was finished off with dinner of course. Lily sorted out the ordering for us. It included Peking Duck for the meat eaters and all other dishes (9 of them) were vegetarian. It was an absolute feast and thoroughly enjoyed by us all.
I'm not sure how my taste buds are going to cope with food back home and also whether I can ever shop again without haggling. Things will seem very expensive once I'm back.
Our bus is picking us up at 9pm and 9 of us will make our way to the airport for our flights home. This has been the most exciting adventure and I will probably talk about it for a long time to come. So glad I did the blog as it will help me remember all the adventures we have had. I've still more photos to put on but most likely some will get finished off once I am back.
I need to get ready now for the British weather. Pack my shorts and t-shirt away from today and put on some warmer clothes:(
